La Real Taqueria Restaurant — Restaurant in Tigard

I've eaten here about 20 times over the last couple years. I almost always get the Del Sol burrito. Most of the time the food is great and the price is right. Service is always fantastic, the place is always clean, food is fast, and it's a great experience whether I eat there or get the food to go. This is true for the restaurant and the food truck. Great people, really.

So why the three star review? because they are way too inconsistent with the quality of the food. I cannot trust that the food I buy on my lunch break will be edible, and going without food all day sucks. Out of the 20 times I've eaten there, three of those times to meat (asada) has been very over cooked, and the ratio of ingredients off, and flavor was not nearly as good. It's so chewy and difficult to eat that I end up throwing it out, and just waiting until I get off work to eat. This was true today jan 6 at about 2:20pm.

I lived in San Diego for 4 days and was exposed to some really amazing Mexican food. Three or four of the 20 times I visited La Real the food was on par with San Diego, and I cannot think of another restaurant in the Portland area that has earned that title yet for me. The rest of the times it was above average, and great value.

The other thing that I have noticed is they are spending a lot of money, time, and energy on marketing and making the restaurant look hip and exciting. I don't care about that at all.

I want the best god damn burrito I've ever had.

I don't care about branded plastic bags. In fact a plastic bag for a single burrito is wasteful, expensive, and terrible for the environment. It literally just slows me down then gets thrown away. Think about all that went into making that bad, then to just through it away. Its insane. It's completely unnecessary, and I don't want to pay for it as a customer.

If the manager asked my opinion I would say just put all that time and energy into making the best and most consistent food that you possible can. Make your employees the best they can be and pay them well. The service there is so wonderful, and the food is usually great or sometimes even incredible. Image means nothing if you don't have great consistent food. Because I've gone hungry three days now I won't be eating there anymore, or recommending it.

This used to be my husband and I's favorite place to eat before we moved about a year ago. My husband came back last week when he was in the area to get food and it had changed for the worst. The staff is no longer the kind, laid back people it was last year. But now is all girls with attitude and lip filler who either cant communicate what you order with the people making food or just didnt care to take the order correctly. Now the food: It has gone down significantly in quality as well. We ordered our entire order with NO ONION and NO CILANTRO(Something that is common items to be taken off of mexican foods as we have both worked in food service and know how people often order their meals) and a good 50%-60% of both my husbands tacos, and my burrito, was just filled with onion. Entire sections of it had exclusively onion like they were trying to save money on meat, cheese, and rice by just replacing it with onions. It was inedible. And ruined our view of both the food and the restaurant for good. And the price for this terrible experience has also gone up quite a bit since last year. Is this place under new management/owners or something?! So...

I was charged $19 for a single shrimp burrito , when I asked the waitress why she charge me so much , she said this is how much it cost $17 + additional $2 dollars because I asked for peppers and onions, apparently, as she said, it only was made with rice and shrimp originally, no veggies. The burritos taste was really bland , hardly no spice or a flavor. Not sure why they put lettuce in it , so when I bite it , it would come out as warm, saggy in long stringy pieces what would just pull .. Quite disgusting! It actually was the worst burrito I’ve ever had and ironically was most expensive one as well . I’ll never go back to that place. I feel cheated.. Especially now when I’m looking at the menu from their website and there is no prices like that on their menu whatsoever. I ordered it around 3:30 pm on Monday the 2 of December 2024 .
