I've been on the hunt for a new go-to cupcake place for a while, since my last favorite place Stupidly Delicious stopped making cupcakes during COVID. I think I've found my new spot Cake by Jason Hisley. I didn't realize they had been on Cupcake Wars among other shows when I walked in. I was wowed by their illusion display cakes, if I was to marry might just have to come here since they're so fabulous. I came for the cupcakes though, and they must be after my heart since they have a wide variety of interesting flavors (if it's a basic flavor just like vanilla then I might as well just skip). I was wowed with their cupcakes: Apple Crumb, and Cotton Candy. The Cookie Dough cupcake was decent, but the core was a bit thick for my taste. I'm also now slightly addicted to their cereal-based donuts flavors though such as Fruit Loops, and Frutti Pebbles. Was surprised at the cake jars, the straight lemon one felt like it was missing something, so the strawberry lemonade cake jar hit the spot, but I think I'll stick to the cupcakes and donuts.
As for their service, it's impeccable, wearing masks correctly, and are very helpful with recommendations. I will be back! Also important to note, the bottom two shelves of cupcake flavors are always there, but the top shelf is always a revolving door or new flavors. Donuts, on the other hand, may have one or two consistent flavors, but change on a more like daily basis! So always something new to try. You can get single donuts or cupcakes, which is important since some places only let you order by the dozen. I would probably rate 4.5, mostly the cupcakes are just a...
Read moreWe booked cake by jason to do our wedding cake. We were told at the time of booking not to freeze the top tier of our wedding cake, they would remake our top tier complementary for us on our anniversary. This really excited us and I was looking forward to getting a big slice of that cake I hardly got to taste on the big day. When I reached out to place the order for an anniversary cake, I was informed anniversary cakes are not complimentary only discounted. And if you want anything close to the decorations like you had on your wedding cake i.e. sugar flowers, etc., it’s charge after charge to get that done. I was a bit surprised by this, as they sold the complementary top tier so hard to us during the time of booking. I decided to go ahead and order the cake anyway for sentimental reasons, and a chance to recreate the magic of our big day a little. The anniversary cake I picked up looked very attractive although plain, but was dry, dense and largely inedible. The only thing that tasted okay was the strawberry jam layer. The vanilla buttercream was the wrong texture and largely flavorless. We followed all the storage guidelines on the box to a tee and it still was tasteless and dry. We ended up throwing it all out. I am so disappointed and would not recommend...
Read moreI love cupcakes...so much so whenever we move my husband and I make it a point to find the best cupcakes in town. When I moved to the Towson area I was so excited to find this bakery. The staff is so friendly and such a wonderfully decorated space. The cupcakes are really really good, such great combinations of flavors. Unfortunately it didn't translate so much to the cake I ordered. Aside from the font (name, little sloppy) on the cake it looked just like the picture I submitted, except the cake was so dry. I was a little disappointed since I was raving about this bakery to family and friends. Fast forward, to this New Years Eve, my husband managed to score the last pre-made cake to take to a party. Again I was raving about it (cookie dough, which we've had many times before) and it was also dry/stale, didn't taste fresh. Not sure, if there is a different baker in house or if the claim to fame has diminished quality control. Would I return for cupcakes and coffee? Absolutely. Unfortunately, no custom...
