It matters not your age, body type or ability level, The Pilates Place will provide you with the best professional encouragement and knowledge to maximize your physical health via these "reformers" (sort of resembles a bed or rack of pullies, straps and springs). Class sizes do not exceed 8-10 people max and the offer of private, beginner and intermediate sessions provides the personal attention needed to preform the exercises appropriately so that you gain strength and functionality. The instructors are amazing in that they utilize the every minute of the full 50 minutes sessions by working multiple parts of your body and the sessions have never repeated themselves. Each instructor provides each person with gentle tweaks of a position so that the benefits are plentiful, motivating everyone to reach their potential and beyond. They connect with you outside of the class to check in on your well-being which is pretty much unheard of in this day and age. Don't be afraid to give it a try, there are people recovering from body part replacements, diseases, just having had babies, along with those that are just looking for strengthening and flexibility opportunities. You will immediately feel welcomed and comfortable with the entire process. This program was recommended by my Physical Therapist as another way to strengthen my back after surgery. Haven't found the need to go back to my PT since beginning this Reformers Pilates with Danielle and her carefully hired instructors. Thank you Danielle for providing a much needed service in a clean...
Read moreAbout a year ago, I was trying to find a way to get back into exercising. I was in my early 40s, had a 4-year-old and had not taken an exercise class since before my daughter was born. I had never felt so unfit; I wanted to feel stronger, healthier and do something new. I had always been intimidated by reformer classes but at the same time I was intrigued by them and thought if I could find the right one, I might really love it. Enter The Pilates Place: from the unassuming studio to the down-to-earth but incredibly knowledgeable instructors, this place is Baltimore's best-kept secret in my opinion. The classes are just the right size so the instructor can call out modifications when needed and guide everyone so that their form is correct. They are focused on making sure you get the most from each exercise and every class I learn something new or feel a muscle in my body I never knew I had. I always leave feeling stronger and mentally better than when I walked in. Unfortunately, I have very little free time these days but whenever I get a free hour I wasn't expecting, the first thing I think of is, 'oh great, maybe I can fit a class in.' Everyone in class is approachable and it just is a really friendly and supportive environment overall. There is a wide age range from probably 20-70+, and to see the benefits that this sort of practice can have on people as they age is really inspiring as well. If you are on the fence about taking a class, definitely give it a shot, you...
Read moreMy husband and I started coming to The Pilates Place late last summer. We started in private classes as neither of us had taken Pilates previously. I never, ever thought I would be able to handle it physically and certainly never anticipated sticking to it. Before too long, we both joined classes, together and individually and now, at 3 days a week, we love it. I have had a number of different teachers and they are all fantastic. It has been life changing, which sounds dramatic but that is how I feel. I am stronger, more fit and since my family has a history of longevity, I can now hope to stay that way for years to come. All instructors give modifications for physical limitations, though after these months, I rarely need to take the modifications. Amazing, since I have had back and shoulder surgeries and various other injuries. For those who think Pilates is “just a little stretching”, try coming to The Pilates Place and see what happens. I turn 70 this year and feel...
