I am not ever comfortable in a jewelry store. It's just not my thing. However, having the need to repair a set of Hawaiian 14k yellow gold fish hook pendants (heirloom pieces gifted to me by my family when I moved from the Islands to the East Coast 35 yrs. ago) I ventured beyond my usual comfort level and visited Meritage. It is one of the best shopping experiences I've ever had, not just on a single visit, but on several consequent visits, too. The welcoming atmosphere at Meritage complements the skill and knowledge of the staff here, and all without the characteristic stuffiness of jewelry venues in the typical suburban shopping mega-malls. I would like to cite specifically and quite enthusiastically the incredible hospitality and expertise of Brian, Craig, Mason, John and Rhula who can easily make you feel at home and help you decide which items and services best fit one's situation or how one might best repair and revitalize heirloom pieces, as was the case for my visits here. If something is not available immediately in the store, they offer catalog photos and really good suggestions on how one might create a beautiful end result. You will not ever enter this place without an immediate welcome, an offer of some great coffee and/or a seat facing the huge digital TV multi-screen at the back of the showroom while you ponder your decisions. A little cultural note: the gold fish hook pendants to Hawaiians are immediately recognizable as symbolic of the Maui fish hook constellation , Mana I'a Ka Lani (Scorpio in western astrology), which our ancient Polynesian ancestors used as an important celestial navigational aide as they traversed back and forth the miles and miles of Pacific Ocean between Hawai'i and other island groups further south. Aloha and Mahalo (thank you) to the outstanding team at Meritage! You are all none other than among the very best in that which you do every day on the showroom floor, certainly the best in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore Metro Area. ...
Read moreA long read, but a true review of a fantastic establishment. I found this jeweler by accident while driving north on York Road. I had purchased a very special bangle bracelet online that would hold the cremation remains of my dear husband. The bracelet arrived in great condition but was way too large for my wrist. I walked into this store on a Saturday afternoon. I was warmly greeted by the sales staff. After explaining my need for adjustment to him, the jeweler, John walked over. After kindly explaining that the bracelet may break if he tried to squeeze it smaller, I gave my consent as I was unable to wear it now as it was. He went into his shop and the sales staff asked if I wanted a drink or refreshment of some sort. He motioned to an area at the rear of the store that had a wide selection of all types of adult beverages, sodas, coffees and teas. I saw hot dogs turning on a grill and a HUGE high definition television on the wall. After a short wait, John returned with a perfectly sized bracelet. He shined it up and even gave me a cloth to keep it that way. He asked if I wanted to wear it, I declined as I wanted to put my Mark inside, commenting to him that when I do, it’ll be tough. He said if I had any trouble to return with everything and he would do it for me. I was so touched and moved by his genuine care and concern. I asked how much I owed him and he said nothing. Well at this point I was besides myself and had to hug him in gratitude. A few days later after being unable to secure the screw to hold in the ashes, I returned. He took care of replacing the screw and handed me back this treasured momento. I could not have been more pleased with the service I received, considering there was absolutely no financial gain for this place. Meritage Jewelers is truly my “Go To” place now. Thanks John and the...
Read moreI highly recommend Meritage Jewelers. Their customer service is second to none. My husband purchased my engagement ring from another jeweler 25 years ago. I returned to that jeweler to find that ownership had changed and so did the customer service. One of the prongs recently lifted on my ring and I was afraid to wear it. I didn’t want to go back to the original jeweler after the last experience I had there. I noticed Meritage Jewelers on York Rd. and thought I would stop in to see if they could help me. A gentleman(employee) approached me (I wish I could remember his name) and asked how he could help me. As I tried to tell him what I needed, I burst into tears. I let him know that it was my wedding anniversary and it was very important that I get my ring fixed as I hadn’t worn it in a while in fear of losing the diamond. The other reason was that my husband had a rare form of cancer and we recently received news of his time left. I had been crying all morning and just couldn’t seem to get myself together. The gentleman was kind as he gave me a glass of water, talked with me for a minute and said that he would be right back. My ring was fixed! He said the prong was only lifted a bit and it would last for a while and we could worry about a more permanent fix at a later date. As he cleaned it, we talked, and I explained what my husband has been through and what’s to come. I cried a lot as it was so hard to say. He finished up my ring and when I put it on my finger I felt relieved. I promised him that I would be back to have it permanently fixed. When I asked him what I owed, he said nothing- which made cry even more- gave me a hug and that he would see me when I came back. Let me just tell you what this meant to me today. I will send everyone I know to...
