So first off, we are blessed to just HAVE a HobbyTown in Toledo. If you arenāt aware, HobbyTown is a franchise chain, therefore every location is a small business with difference between locations. Iāve heard that the HT locations can ship things for free in between each other, but I have not tried, HT online is itās own entity.
Iām primarily a gundam and warhammer modeler, so I canāt comment on the RC but the selection looks great, you will also find other fun things like puzzles and learning toys. Lego too.
The Warhammer selection is decent, however they can order and preorder stuff, and offer a discount if you do. To my knowledge they are the only brick and mortar store that offers a discount in Toledo, but unfortunately itās not the max allowable discount that GW allows.
Supplies: They have the best selection of hobby supplies in Toledo, with some really nice niche brands such as gunprimer, however itās a little hit or miss on āessentialsā. While itās the best selection, thereās definitely a lot of gaps, and Iāve asked about ordering certain things only to be told they either canāt get it at all or they just donāt carry the lines (mr hobby). Certain hobby supplies release in waves, and getting them can be tough, so I understand, but iāve seen certain products in other HTs that they donāt carry here, which is unfortunate.
Gunpla: Best selection of gunpla in Toledo, hands down. Tons of stock comes in, all the time, and they have a fantastic selection of HGs, an ok collection of rgs, and a really solid collection of MGs new and old. PGs are there when they are there. Prices are good, often times at msrp or below, and there is a rewards system as well as sales every once in a while which is nice. My only complaint with gunpla is that the 30 minutes sisters line is a little lackluster, there never seems to be enough base kits ordered. There is a great selection of one piece boats & pokemon kits.
Unfortunately however no kotobukiya⦠I asked the owner and he told me that āhe orders them but he just gets what he getsā. Iāve never seen a single kotobukiya kit in the 3 months Iāve been coming. Meanwhile Iāve seen WALLS of frame arms girls at other hobbytown locations such as Chicago/Richmond/Tulsa, so itās definitely disappointing.
Even though I should probably put a 4 Iām putting the rating as 5 because frankly it could be worse, Iāve seen HTs with 5 mediocre gunpla kits on the shelf, and Iām grateful that we have this in our small city. That said, I wish that the owner was a little more open minded, and that he figured out a way to order some other brands of japanese kits & hobby supplies. The employees are a little hit or miss, or standoffish, and Iāve been straight up followed before, which sucked. Iāve seen other hobbytowns with WAY better stock, and some of them are even official bandai stores. The stock does move quickly on gunpla kits too, so itās a little unfortunate that they donāt stock up more sometimes.
Iām moving out of toledo, and I know Iām gonna miss this place. Make sure you stop by before giving money to a faceless corporation, because if we donāt, then we lose lovely local...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStole $71 from my son. Was supposed to give him a credit with the purchase for some items he took back and did not do it. After going around and around with the employees the one said they could bring up the camera footage so we actually called him on it and went up to the store and conveniently the cameras weren't working that day. we clearly showed them the receipt and that my son paid for every item that was on there and that there was no credit whatsoever. He called up there probably four times and we even went up there asking for camera footage that they claimed to have showing the amount of money that he gave them . The camera is right above the register which would clearly show the four $100 bills and the $50 bill that he handed them because they would have had to hold them up to the light and mark them which they admitted that they do period so if anything it would show the employee holding the bills up. By the time he called the person today that he dealt with they all had three different stories what happened. My son has one story and he even told the effing idiot that was there today what color the barbecue sauce was of the chicken sandwich that he was eating from Chick-fil-A. And that he was running his finger around the sauce and smacking his lips at the counter and the other guy that was helping my son looked over at him and said he was sounding like a damn horse. We insisted that we talk to the owner and was told that we could call back before 3:00 p.m. tomorrow which we will be glad to do. When I went on Facebook to leave a review I saw a picture of the owner, the funny thing is when the owner figure it out who we were and what we were trying to figure out he ran in the back room and did not come out the entire time. Of course we didn't know that was him at the time. this place is as crooked as the day is long and I will be glad to change my rating if the owner comes up with the video that was conveniently not working that day and gives my son...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGood selection. Nice store. I went in to look at model trains for my father who just entered a nursing home. Salesman was uninformed on how model electric trains work. Tried to tell me you could not set up the tracks in a straight line, they had to be in a circle for the electricity to work. I explained that's not how DC power works and he proceeded to lecture me on how I don't understand electricity. I have a working knowledge of DC and AC electricity and own a model train set myself. I bought the train, went home, and it worked exactly the way I said it did. Train runs in a straight line or in a circle. He doesn't understand DC electricity. Probably knowledgeable in other areas of the shop, but not in the trains. Overall, decent shop and appeared to be...
