So Sweet Lebanese & French Pastries — Restaurant in Toledo

I would caution anyone with nut allergies to not visit this shop (Talmage and Sylvania location). We stopped in and very carefully asked whether several products we specified contained nuts or were possibly cross-contaminated with nut. We were with our 2.5-year old son, who is allergic and can go into shock. We were told no. We repeated the question several times. At other places, it is not uncommon we get a "we can't guarantee no cross-contamination" which is ok. In this case, we got a clear go-ahead. Not two bites into one of the pastries, our son starts exhibiting hives and other signs that something is up. Long story short, we are at the ER about half an hour later, after applying an EPI pen. We proceed to spend half a day in the ER for follow-up. I expected these people to at least have the decency to state that they can't guarantee nut cross-contamination. I suppose shame on us for trusting a stranger's guarantees, but when you visit a business you sort of expect sincere answers. We were very disappointed not only because of the ER costs which were substantial, but most importantly the total disregard for safety when answering repeated questions. For the record, the pastries we did get to try before heading to the ER were good tasting, so I am not going to bash them for the quality of the food. If you have no allergies that could kill you, and if you don't need to rely on the decency of business owners to warn you, then by all means, you may get satisfaction here. But if you do have such allergies, be forewarned. They get my one star (0 seems not to be an option) because of these people's lack of care to simply say "we don't know" or "we can't...

I put in an order for a graduation cake for my son weeks in advance of the party. I even stopped by, in person, a couple of days before to make sure I would be able to pick up in the morning the day of the party (which was at 1:00). The day of, I stopped by at noon to pick up the cake and was told it would be ready in an hour and a half!! After expressing dismay, they said they could have it ready at 12:45, which meant I had to go to the venue to set up, then my husband had to leave to go get the cake, and missed the first 45 minutes of the party. No discount or other accommodations were offered. The cake had lettering that read “happy birthday” even though I’d specified that it was a graduation party. There were printed images on the side of the cake which we assumed were sugar sheets, but they weren’t dissolved into the frosting at all - we tried cutting through them with a cake server but they were like card stock. I’m guessing they were less expensive wafer paper? I’d hate to think they were literal card stock, but that’s what they seemed like - we had to peel them all off and throw them away. I will say several folks reported the cake itself was tasty, but I don’t recommend this...

I really wanted to love this place but i am severely disappointed. I have ordered a cake from here before so i thought it would be a good option for my parters 30th birthday. I ordered online and clearly instructed them to contact me before making the cake which never happened. I called 2 days before the cake was made to make sure the cake was up to my standards and someone answered and said they would connect me to the baker and they never called. Pickup time came and no one even called to tell me the cake was available i had to call myself. I paid $125 for this cake which makes my standards so much higher. When i picked up the cake it didnt have nearly as much decor on it as the reference which was fine because the cake was still beautiful. The cake itself was AWFUL. Tasted severely of salt and baking soda/powder. My guest didn’t even eat it because how bad it is. I hate to go this route but i have emailed them about the quality of the cake and no one has responded to me. Severe poor communication. For $125 i expect much better communication and quality.
