Has something you value greatly ever been destroyed? Maybe it was a fragile vase that was knocked over by a child. Perhaps it was boxes of photo albums in a flood. It may have been your trust. Self-storage is used for the most "mundane" of objects that might be crowding one's valuable space at home, for the tools or materials someone needs to home a paycheck, to sentimental items whose value is worth every penny to keep them safe.
I have used many different storage companies in many cities. I have used them for work (to store event materials) and for personal use. The quality of service and units vary greatly between companies, but also between individual locations of the same brand.
The truth of the matter is that a storage facility is only as good as the person managing it. Do they value your time, your loyalty, and your piece of mind? John at Extra Space Farmingville does. He listened to what we needed, suggested units to fit our needs, and expressed true dedication in the making sure the facility was clean and safe.
I have rented from units where I chose the cheapest option to save a buck. It came back to bite me when my things were not in good condition because of facility negligence. I saved money only to lose more than I saved. I have rented at places that see customers simply as an opportunity to up-sell. I have rented in units in cities where I was afraid to walk down the halls because security was so lax.
You cannot assign a value to peace of mind and trust. When I am awake at night and worrying about things, it is good to know that my things are safe. It is one less worry. That piece of mind that comes with having a knowledgeable and respectful and friendly manager (John!) and having a clean and safe facility... it's refreshing. Your stuff is safe here, it won't get destroyed. And your trust is safe here... you are...
Read moreThe fact that my storage price goes up every 3 months or I have to move to a different unit is annoying. They say they are going with "the trend of the market price".. but why am I finding BETTER, same size, storage, by the same company?? And if the storage market price drops- I don't get to pay any less on my unit! I don't have 24/7 access. Turns out my last unit wasn't even climate controlled like I was paying for! So now we're going from paying $72 to $120 in June, or I change units?? Yeah, I'll change units. And companies. I'm done with this one. I want 24/7 access like the other competitors. Climate controlled, and larger storage for the same amount im paying - plus, I'm not swindled into paying the extra $11 a month for "protection" when they can't even protect anything! I know firsthand because at the last location, mine got broken into, and they won't pay for anything that's missing. Nothing. So save that $11 a month you force upon us renters. We can get our own coverage like through geico or any of our insurance companies we're using for auto or renters insurance. Extra space storage is soon going to be Empty Space Storage. Your competitors are beating your prices and incentives.
Btw: your Bluetooth gates don't work at more than half your facilities. Check online for extra space storage complaints...
Read moreFor starters...super awesome staff. Amanda was incredibly friendly and helpful over the phone. Genevieve assisted me in person when I arrived and went above and beyond making me feel comfortable storing my items at this facility. Genevieve was also very patient answering all my questions and took the time to show me options ensuring I found the unit that was just right for me. I felt like an actual person rather than another unit number. This particular facility is immaculate! Inside and outside - well groomed property and very clean halls/units. Plenty of parking and two entrances make this a very accessible building during peak and off peak hours. My only suggestion is maybe getting slightly bigger carts. I did make these work - but sometimes it was a struggle with some of my larger furniture...
