I've been on a crazy nostalgia kick lately. Looking at my SNES collection I decided to find the games I lost or sold as a kid. Living in jersey there aren't a lot of options and the ones avalible charge either ebay prices and up, or have a tiny selection. I stumbled upon Game On from a craigslist post. Issue was they were 2 hours away from me by car.
After going through every retro store in Manhattan, Queens, and Bronx there wasnt much left. So I bribed my cousin and we took the trip out to LI and I could not be more happy we did. First off the shop is the cleanset I've been in and welcoming. Found a few PS2 games I've been hunting for (all priced lovely), started back up my NES collection and even grabbed some N64 games.
Dani was great, she's super nice and kept things fun. We talked about beat em ups, Japan, and she was super patient with me as I looked over the vast selections over and over (I didn't want to miss anything).
Tristan the owner I only met for legit a minute but he was cool. Made a joke about a NES game that has eluded me for a while and all I could think was "I love the vibe here." He found out I was from out of state, looked at my ps2 games and hooked me up. Why...I have no idea, even typing now that was such a cool thing to do when he didn't have to. But seriously thank you that was insanely kind.
You don't get this kind of quality, prices, and customer service in NY and NJ. I did not strike any of the games on the top of my wishlist off but left with a bag of games. My only complaint falls on me as I have some doubles of NES and SNES games I should've brought in to possibly get that rare game I had my eye on in their display. But there will be a next time.
To Dani thank you for the hospitality and great convos, get Brawl Brothers you'll love it. Tristan thank you again for the kind gesture and having such an amazing store....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went here today with a friend of mine after passing it a bunch of times and never going in. The store was packed on every single shelf for tons of games for every console they sold. There was some old school MIDI music coming from a Genesis game that was left out for people to play, which added to the retro feel.
The worker/owner (not sure which) was very friendly, helpful and sociable. He was helpful in everything, despite one absolutely tiny miscommunication on our ends. I was trying to ask if Gave Story 3d was just a direct port with the Nintendo 3ds stock 3d feature, or if it was a 3d game the way Mario 64 is 3d. It's actually a direct port with no 3d effects but it has upgraded graphics which, while I do prefer the original graphics, the new ones make it a LOT easier to see stuff that was hard to see in Cave Story for PC.
The prices are slightly higher than Game stop, but that should be pretty obvious why it's the case. This store doesn't have a thousand other stores and corporate backing. I'd much rather spend 5 more dollars and support a small business than i would to save it at a corporation.
I was in a bit of a rush so I didn't get to ask all the questions I needed, but the fellow was very attentive and provided excellent customer support.
The only thing I wish they had, is maybe some kind of events. It would be cool if they sold Magic the Gathering and similar cards. Maybe table top, and maybe host games.
I think this place is great. I will be going here over GameStop whenever possible. It's definitely my new favorite game store. I will spread the word about this place to people I know because I endorse these types of stores.
PS if you ever need some extra help, part time, id love to get a 2nd job maybe a few...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat business, the owner is a really cool guy. I been doing business with this place for a while whether it was buying or trading. I have traded in a bunch of rare games to this store for cash and was giving a greater amount of money in return then other stores such as brothers grimm in seldon in which i do not recommend to ever trade in games to that store because they will low ball you a ridiculous amount of money and the only reason why I went to brothers grim is the reason I gave game on 4 stars and not 5 because I was desperately in the need for money and needed to trade in a bunch of my ps2 games for cash on a Monday when game on is not open and thats why i gave them 4 stars because if game on was open I wouldn't need to go to brothers grimm where I experienced the worse decision i ever made in my life when it comes to trading in games for cash because brothers grimm basically gave me nothing compared to what game on would give me. So for future references if anyone is in desperate need to trade in games for cash like I was on a Monday or Tuesday when there not open i would personally take the loss in whatever is going on in your life and just wait for game on store to open because its not worth going somewhere else and being ripped off. Good luck to all you gamers with your game on experience best wishes to game on and I'll be looking forward to going back...
