If this is for Maple/Transit store...my experience is and has been DAILY since i work for a family nearby providing homecare for their loved one. Wasn't immediate that i noticed the bad attitudes of many of the employees. Of course not everyone is in the most awesome of moods at their jobs everyday. I am not either. But then quickly i summed up the cranky/rude/downright nasty ones...hence the reason i avoided them and changed to self checking only. One particular day this deli worker ignored me as i was seen and the employee walked away. Hmmm...well i said excuse me...and still no response. So i was flipping. I had to go to the desk and turn in lotto tickets for my patient and the girl there qas talk about an emplpyee to the assistan manager. So i spoke up and said yes there are some really nasty, non helpful employees here and in the depts where I'd encountered them. The asst mgr. named each of them to me and i said if you know this why dont they get reprimanded? She said....its the union...they won't fire anyone and they don't have to be nice to customers. REALLY....HOW UNNACCEPTABLE. !!!!!!! She agreed amd.apologized. i said I have to come onto this store every day and sometimes 2-3 times a day. I hate shopping as it is and then to have to deal with such a reality ruins my day. I came close to quitting the job as i shdnt have to deal with such people and that often. So i continued to ahop as quikly as i cd and get out of there. But in the beginning id greet the cashier or other employee in the various areas and after 3 xs i totally gave up. Even the pharmacy...no one says ill be right with you or even aclnowledge me at the counter. Where's the dam bell that used to be available ages ago to get their dam attemtion??? Soooooo...after a time i went in and one of the most snooty ones said goodmorning as i walked by them in the aisle. Then another and another were pleasant....hmmm...could only be God at that point making them be pleasant. Ya know...i say train some mentally handicapped individuals to do their jobs and i guarantee every customer will be happy and look forward to patronize this establishment. I have worked with the mentally handicapped and ill tell ya...I'd rather have them work for me if i owned a business as they are hardworking, loving, kind and only want the same in return. Now lets trun this around and think of WHO is actually the mentally...
Read moreI recently had an unsettling experience at this store. I was accused of stealing by an employee, simply because I had a couple of packs of chips that happened to be carried by the store. It would have been reasonable for the employee to fact-check or consult security footage before making such an accusation based solely on a barcode scan.
Barcodes aren't unique to a specific store, and scanning an item doesn't necessarily mean it belongs to that store. For instance, a bag of Cheetos from one store can still scan at other stores, but that doesn't make it their property. If I'd had access to my phone, I could have easily clarified this.
What added to the frustration was that the employee took my property - a package of chips - and attempted to make me leave the store. The situation could have been handled more professionally and respectfully.
As a customer, I felt uncomfortable and misunderstood by an employee who seemed unaware of basic barcode functionality. I believe that employees in retail should be well-informed and respectful in their interactions.
My hope is that this review brings attention to the importance of accurate knowledge and respectful customer service. I believe every customer deserves to be treated fairly and respectfully. I also hope this incident prompts the store to address such situations with more professionalism.
Edit: Since this review, I have contacted the manager of this location and have confirmed that I am not banned from the store. I will return and if I have a good experience, i will update my...
Read morePlease educate your newer staff, and especially younger staff, about what customer service and dealing with people entails. The young lady I encountered at Tops Store 044, working at register 8 between 4:03-4:08 pm on Dec. 19 was in high need of further training. She did not know how to pack a grocery bag to start, but as new employee I can forgive her for that. Next she did not know how to check out gift cards with the advertised Christmas bonus. When questioned she became irritated with me, repeating the price without the discount. Next she told me the lady on the next register knew how to do it and then proceeded to ask me to ask her to help me. Your training should give your employees the ability to seek help for themselves. Things did eventually get fixed. But rather than handing them to me, your cashier proceeded to throw the cards behind her in the bagging area. I had to ask her for the receipts on the gift cards - she also threw them into the bagging area. Please take time to educate your newer...
