Ever since Haye's Fish market left this building, i never cared to go to any other business that would have taken over the vacant spot. I did pause for a second though, when Wheatberry Bake shop appeared. But still i never stop, I assumed it was just another gluten free/vegan bakery. It wasnt until I became more active on Yelp and read the positive reviews, along with teaming up with Evelyn (a yelper as well) to see and post our reviews on all the bakeshops near us. So my mission, if i choosed to accept was to finally go to Wheatberry. Once I opened up the door I was standing in front of a glass counter showcasing all the best looking desserts your heart desires. The smell of the place is amazing, you know your in a place that makes their desserts on site. Now on to my purchases, I will start with the peanut butter cookie. As you can see from the pic it is huge, it was good it really was. But I prefer more of a peanut butter taste and a little more chewy, but it still is a soft cookie but not as soft as i would have like it. I got 4 cupcakes, but will speak on the one I tried. The german chocolate, was good as well but again i felt the cupcake couldve been a little bit more moist. It wasnt dry to the point I felt my money was wasted. For me though, it couldve been a bit more moist. If it was, I wouldve ate the other 3 cupcakes i have waiting for my family to try. Next up is the Lemon bar, OOOOh boy the lemon hits your taste buds right out of the gates. I like the smooth texture of the lemon bar, it coats your tongue and the sweetness seems to intensify to calm the lemon flavor down some. This bar was a great balance of sweet verse bitter, I could only imagine eating just one though because its soooo rich. Last but not least is the pecan bar, imagine the best pecan pie you had and picture it condense. Thats what you get from this sticky, pecan pack bar. I had to eat mine with a fork because it was so sticky and if i was out in public. How many people would think i was weird for constantly licking my fingers? lol There were vegan products there, I did not try. I will go again at some point, but for now I am on to my...
Read moreI absolutely love this bakery. It's small and local. The people who run it are friendly and personable and really just couldn't be nicer. As far as the food goes I have pretty high standards but this place has never disappointed me. Their cupcakes are spectacular- especially if you eschew the typical flavors and go for the slightly more adventurous ones (the salted caramel truffle is a particular favorite of mine and my family's, although the maple bacon received mixed reviews in our house). Be warned- these are not the kind of cupcakes you stuff in your mouth in the car- these are the kind of cupcakes you eat with a plate and a fork. They're that good. Seriously. The fare you'll get here is usually heavier than the kind of thing you'd pick up at Tops. It's a definitely sign of their high quality but it can sometimes mean that you have to pace yourself a bit more than you would think. Other items that are to die for are their breads (made fresh daily, usually a good few varieties) pizzas and...
Read moreAs a 62 year old African American male who grew up near the recent Tops tragedy, I have become jaded and cynical about race relations in this county and in this country. I enter stores especially suburban establishments with trepidation.
I've been ordering deliveries this bakery for over a year but this week I went to pick up my order. There was some grubhub confusion but they prepared my order. They even replaced a loaf I had incorrectly selected and had sliced. They were incredibly gracious throughout the entire encounter
Today I discovered they hadn't received payment for my last order. I called and was told not to worry about it. I immediately jumped in my car and went there to make additional purchases.
I was first attracted to the bakery because they sell scones and GREAT bread. Although I'm not a man who eats " sweets ", I'm going to be shouting from the rooftops about this wonderful establishment, their incredible products, the welcoming employees and the engaging owner
You made my...
