My wife and I went to this Harbor Freight Tools location in search of Metric Square Head Sockets or Square Head Wrench Keys which are commonly denoted by 'S' followed by a number e.g. 'S10' which is for a 10 mm Square Head. We needed the correct tool to remove both the Fill and Drain Plugs of the ATX14A / All-Mode 4WD Transfer Case in our 2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE. SAE Square Heads fasteners either male or female are commonly found in plumbing. However, metric Square Heads are much more unique and are more commonly found in automotive or heavy-duty equipment applications.
Truthfully, the Front and Rear Differential Fill and Drain Plugs on our 2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE were a much more simple task. A typical 1/2" drive socket or breaker bar worked perfectly to loosen and tighten the Fill and Drain Plugs. Frankly, a lot of individuals will attempt to use a 3/8" ratchet to loosen the Fill and Drain Plugs on a Nissan ATX14A / All-Mode 4WD Transfer Case and wind up stripping out the female S10 Fill Plug. Although, a 3/8" ratchet drive fits in the orifice it is way to lose and it will quickly strip out with the amount of torque required to remove or properly install the Fill and Drain Plugs. In short, 10 millimeters equates to 0.394 Inch and 3/8" equates to 0.375 Inch which is a difference of 0.019" and this will definitely equate to a stripped fastener!
In short, we had already checked Napa Auto Parts, Lowe's Improvement Center, AutoZone, Advance Auto, and The Home Depot. Ironically, the owner of the Napa Auto Parts store tried to sell us a 3/8" Stock Steel Bar after I had already specifically indicated, "A 3/8" drive ratchet is way too small... And that it needs to be an S10 Metric Square Head Socket or Square Head Wrench Key! On the other hand, when we asked, The Harbor Freight Tools associate does Harbor Freight Tools carry Metric Square Head Sockets or Square Head Wrench Keys she immediately checked their database and she quickly responded, "No, sorry... We do not." We appreciated the quick and accurate response so we did not waste our time looking throughout the store. At that point, I knew the only quick sources would be a Snap-On, Matco, or other Tool Truck, and online retailer or Amazon. We wound up ordering the correct tool via Amazon Prime. Kudos to the Harbor Freight Tools Associate in Binghamton, NY for efficiently answering...
