Luminous Hair Studio — Local services in Town of Hempstead

I had a very disappointing experience at this hair studio. I drove over 50 miles based on a friend’s recommendation and had booked an appointment. Just five minutes before my scheduled time, I received a call asking if I could come in an hour later. I explained that I was already five minutes away and had driven over an hour to get there. They agreed to still see me. However, when I arrived, I was told there would be an additional $90 charge on top of the Groupon I had already purchased, which included a haircut and keratin treatment. I was also informed that the keratin treatment wouldn’t leave my hair straight, but wavy. When I asked to see an example of how wavy, the stylist consulted someone I assumed was the manager or owner. He then told me they wouldn’t perform the treatment because their products were meant for “white people hair” and not for Indian hair—which was offensive and made no sense, especially since my Indian friend regularly gets keratin treatments at this same salon. I honestly believe this happened because they had overbooked appointments and decided to refuse me service so they could accommodate someone else—likely a full-paying customer, rather than a Groupon one. If they didn’t want to honor Groupon bookings, they should’ve stated that upfront rather than wasting my time. As a stay-at-home mom of two, it's incredibly hard to find time for myself. This review is for a foilyage & haircut by Jay. Long story short I was in desperate need of a haircut & coloring after months of being quarantined to my home. My usual salon is in NYC, but was not looking to make the trip all the way out for a hair appointment given the current situation. I stumbled upon Luminous Hair Studio on social media & couldn't be more happier with the results!

Salon experience: My appt was scheduled for 11AM & I finished around 4PM. Jay & his assistant Amy made me feel comfortable from the second I walked in. From the sparkling clean salon to the luxurious products used I felt at ease. Both have many years of experience & it clearly shows in their work. Having dark hair (i'm asian) I always make sure to do my research & find a stylist that has experience working with darker hair. The color results were incredible - I was amazed at how much dimension was achieved in such little time. My hair also doesn't feel damaged or dry which tells you that the products used were all of high quality. Masks are worn the entire time and only 1 customer is permitted in the studio at a time to comply with health and safety regulations.

All I have to say is that I’m so so thankful for finding this salon. I came in with dyed black hair wanting to be blonde, and they worked with me to find the perfect shade for my skin tone and hair needs, ensuring that going blonde wouldn’t damage my hair. They spent countless hours just focusing on my hair, and checking in on me to make sure I was doing okay and needed anything. They had three people working on my hair to make sure it would come out perfectly based on what I asked for.
