2018 John and his staff were professional and pleasant when I first dropped off our family treasure. The caned seat and back, of greatgrand motherās knitting rocker recently suffered a broken seat and torn back. The piece had been cared for for over 100 years, and now needed repair by someone who knew how to do the work, and have the heart and soul to understand our feeling for this old dowager. We knew the caning would need to be replaced, but we did not want the piece refinished. John understood completely. He told us what he could do and how he would price the work. Recaneing is slow precise work. Both the back and the seat each had over 90 ports through which at least 4 pieces of caning needed to pass. The artisans took their time and did the job right. We are delighted with the results. Already four generations of women have knit in this rocker. I contemplate the day it will one day grace the home of the soon-to-arrive great granddaughter for whom I am currently knitting yet another blanket. Thank you John and staff for allowing us to carry on the legacy.
February 2022: Based on the excellent work done on my grandmotherās rocker, y John and his staff; when our Duncan Phyfe table suffered a compromised leg, we went back to see if the elves in his workshop could ameliorate a dining catastrophe. In less than 2 weeks, the leg was repaired with a metal spider, and dowels. It is now better and sturdier than new. Holidays find 20 seated plus babies around this classic piece. Thanks to John and his crew, we anticipate she will host many more family gatherings. Lovely work!
January 2025 Another perfect restoration for my Empire/Regency dining room arm chair. The repair is totally invisible. John is not only an expert at giving our valued pieces new life. he is a wealth of information. I always learn something new about these vintage pieces. Thank you John for returning our piece to serve us for many happy gatherings around the family...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have a cedar toy chest that belonged to my parents and came from my early childhood home. Over many years, it was moved from my childhood home to one apartment and then to another. It wasn't until before I moved recently that I opened the chest after probably many, many years. The hinge to the lid wasn't working properly but I was able to remove all the wonderful treasures that I found inside, in particular my brother's and my baby blankets in addition to linens that belonged to my parents from when we were very little, as well as some small childhood toys. Not only hadn't I opened the chest for so long, but I also never took care of it. I decided that the hinge should be fixed and that the chest should be given some well needed and deserved TLC for when I moved.
John Rosini, the proprietor, came to look at the piece, and he examined every part of it and explained to me in detail what needed to be done (and what didn't need to be done) in order to maintain the structural integrity of the piece as well as preserve and maintain its original appearance. He treated and cared for it as a family heirloom, although until then I hadn't really considered it as such. He repaired the hinge, so that I can now properly open and shut the lid. He cleaned, treated, and polished the cedar wood in the most conservative manner possible in order to restore and preserve the original finish.
John also bolstered each of the four legs and in addition applied a dome to the bottom surface of each leg in order to preserve and protect this portion of the chest.
I was even impressed with and admired the way John carefully wrapped the entire piece in blankets both upon pick up and delivery of the chest. I believe John treated what I now consider an heirloom with the utmost of care from start to finish, and the piece looks beautiful and it functions...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI brought in a 1930s art deco secretary, which I found some years ago in a consignment shop near me. I knew the piece was beautiful, but also that it has seen better days. Jamie was a pleasure to deal with from the initial emails and did everything he promised. When it came time to find period-appropriate hardware, I did not just want to get anything that fit the style and was available at the time, because there was not much I liked. So I searched various antiques sites, and found items I wanted - but since some of them were located abroad, I had to wait for them to arrive. Rosini patiently kept the secretary until the hardware arrived, wanting to deliver a completed piece. Once I gave them the hardware, they completed the job quickly and delivered the piece soon after. I love this deco secretary, because it's unique and gorgeous, and I thought this BEFORE the restoration, with its age and flaws showing. But I did not know just how gorgeous it truly was until after I saw it restored. The restoration brought out the beauty and nuance in color of the wood, the same wood I've been looking at for years but never really saw before. I stared at the various parts, wondering how I never noticed these details before. And I consider myself to be a perceptive person! If you have something you'd like to restore, entrust it to the guys at Rosini - they won't disappoint. Jamie and John, the owner, made sure I was completely happy with the job, and Scott, the tech who did a lot of the work on the piece, not only did an astounding job bringing out the beauty of the wood, but also took time to fine tune the piece, once delivered, to make sure all of the hardware worked as well as it could on this 90 or so year old secretary. These guys take great care and pride in what they do and that's exactly the type of restorer you want for something you love...
