A Hidden Gem: Discovering the Perfect Record Store
Today, I stumbled upon an incredible record store that feels like a hidden gem for any music lover. Nestled in a cozy corner of town, Buddha Belly Records is a haven for those who cherish the warmth and authenticity of vinyl records.
The first thing that struck me was the atmosphere. The store is impeccably clean, with an inviting aroma of incense wafting through the air. It’s a small touch, but it adds so much to the experience, creating a serene and nostalgic vibe that perfectly complements the act of browsing through records. The store has an impressive variety of records on display. Whether you’re a fan of classic rock, jazz, hip-hop, or rare indie releases, there’s something for everyone. The shelves are meticulously organized, making it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for, or to stumble upon something you never knew you needed.
The owner, a friendly and knowledgeable individual, adds a personal touch that you just can’t get from a big-box retailer. Whether you’re a seasoned vinyl collector or a newbie just starting out, this store has something for everyone ranging from dollar bins to rare imports from France. Spending time in this store feels like a journey through musical history, each record a doorway to a different era and genre. It’s more than just a shopping experience; it’s a place where you can lose yourself for hours, rediscover old favorites, and uncover new ones.
If you love music and appreciate the unique charm of vinyl records, this store is a must-visit. It’s not just about the records; it’s about the entire experience. From the soothing incense to the vast selection and the warm, knowledgeable owner, every detail has been thoughtfully curated to create a space that celebrates the...
Read moreAn impeccably curated selection of top tier independent hip hop music, Buddha Belly Records is located in a metaphorically appropriate "slight turn off Main Street" in Sayville. To say the staff is knowledgeable is an understatement- every conversation I've had personally, or overheard, was like a ping pong match of knowledge; each volley leaving an impression on their expression. Hidden gems are also plentiful courtesy of the vast collection inside the "Dollar Crates" that line the store's floor, running along the walls underneath the "featured" record display tables. Accessories running the gamut from necessary to pure nostalgic fun adorn the few empty spaces on the walls and counters, their presence interrupted by a smart selection of both turntables and speakers that leave no listener feeling uninvited to the record revival: from the newly initiated to the vinyl veteran, Buddha Belly Records has got something for you. On a personal note, as a fan of independent hip hop who typically feels placated by most shops selection, my most recent visit (2/20) broke a streak of stores both in and out of NY who left me confused and empty handed when asking for any material by a new favorite artist of mine from overseas, Sonnyjim. While they haven't grabbed any of his full length releases yet, I was put on to a new album by CRIMEAPPLE on which Sonnyjim was featured on. That's called being plugged in, and an example of someone who has a clear love for what they do. If you're a fan of music beyond the mainstream radio rotation, get yourself down to Buddha Belly Records and get familiar with the essence of pure artistic joy emanating from this...
Read moreThis place is a veritable treasure trove. It's more than just a record store, it's a soul shop. From the moment you walk in, you're invited to a feast for the five senses.
The entire atmosphere is warm and welcoming. From the music gently playing, to the soft lighting, to the lounge in the back, the beautiful displays of colors, sounds and scents create a tasteful and interactive experience.
My favorite touch is the little chess set by the front. It's the perfect way to convey to a customer that their presence is welcome. It practically says to take your coat off and stay a while. After a nice browse, a good game with a friend while chatting with patrons or Michael (the very friendly and cool owner) makes me feel like I'm just hanging out at a friend's place.
The last thing I'll say is that Michael (the owner) is a great fellow. Easy-going, eclectic in his tastes, and erudite in conversations, Michael is at least half of the awesomeness that this place has to offer.
In a world where you can purchase anything and everything online, many people might doubt the purpose of brick-and-mortar businesses. Let this place dispel those illusions.
