Very rude staff. They refused to sell alcohol to my 30 year old wife who had her ID simply because I did not also have my wallet on me. I am 27 years old myself. They also refused to allow my wife to purchase alcohol even if I left the store. They have the right to refuse sale, but they were not required to do this under NYS law (despite what was claimed). This decision made my wife feel disrespected. We ended up going to another liquor store and had no issues buying what we needed for a cheaper price. Finally, the selection of alcohol was very lackluster. They only had one choice for the type of alcohol my wife wanted to buy as a gift.
Edit in response to owner:
In the past, your own institution had no issues selling alcohol to my mother when I was actually a minor in the store. Therefore, it is a bit disingenuous to state that this is NYS law unless you admit that your own institution was not following the law in the past. You have the right to refuse to sell to almost anyone, but it's certainly not going to create happy customers.
I had just gotten back from an outdoor activity. This is why I did not have my ID on me. As stated above, my wife had her valid NYS drivers license and neither one of us has ever had issues in the past. She wanted to buy a gift for the in laws. We were not buying party drinks. As you admit, the security cameras demonstrate I wasn't even interested in the alcohol myself. I only came to the register after the cashier was disrespectful to my wife and demanded to see my license too.
I came to your store because you had good reviews and I remembered going there as a kid. In the future, I will certainly choose the other local liquor stores which aren't rude and prone to calling their customers liars.
Edit 2: NYS law does not a) mandate liquor stores to ID the whole party, b) specifically exempt dependents from the so called "card party" policy, or c) ban a person over the age of 21 from coming back alone to buy alcohol. These are the decisions of your own institution. Pretending they are state laws is disingenuous and contributing to the feelings of disrespect. If you are able to provide references to the specific statutes you are referring to, I will happily modify my review.
Edit 3: Which case law sets precedent for to ID whole party in NYS? I'd love to know. My wife (the purchaser) had a valid NYS...
Read moreThis is a nice little adult beverage store. The selection is wonderful but moreover, the help that you get from the friendly staff is awesome. Not being a great big Wine Drinker, I always have questions about different brands types of wines before buying. The owners are always so helpful and knowledgeable and able to answer any questions you have. Sometimes there are able to turn you on to something new that you never really considered before. The prices are comfortable and in some cases very reasonable. The setup of the store is very logical and in a space, there's enough variety for you to be able to get what you want instead of being overwhelmed by choice as does happen when one is in one of the large large adult beverage stores. When in the store, be sure to listen good to the music selection was comes directly from the owners collection a really good rock and roll and jazz / Blues. Sometimes walking around and listening is better than the shopping experience. I guess you could say it adds to the experience itself. At least for...
