State University of New York at New Paltz — Local services in Town of New Paltz

Nice looking school, but that's about as much as it has going for it. Their dorm buildings are plagued with asbestos, not cleaned properly, and the school lacks sufficient space to house its students. Freshman must live on campus, but the school over accepts and finds themselves unable to fit them all, so they force three students into rooms meant for two people. There is constant ongoing construction, which would be great for solving the housing issue, but their progress is at a constant standstill, and half of the projects are unrelated to housing entirely. They are closing the only dining hall on campus next semester with no clear plan for students who rely on allergy free, reliable, and/or 'healthy' (it's debatable if what they serve already can be categorized as edible, let alone healthy) food options. The administration feels separated from the student and staff body, with grievances about admin being the only thing people seem to agree with each other about at this school. I had a very bad experience at this university and I don't recommend parents to send their children here. I finished my undergrad here a while back but I am not proud of the "education" I received and don't feel like I learned anything more here that I could have gotten on YouTube for free. I found the quality of education, equipment and facilities to all be a downgrade from my highschool. Some of the professors seemed to genuinely care, but I guess like most NY state schools nowadays the campus and overall atmosphere was one injected with political and cultural ideology and picking favorites. I also found the administration at the school seemed more focused on money grabs and inclusivity quotas than on actually nurturing quality education and passionately guiding the students in a productive pathway for their degrees. This school is biased and extremely prejudice in their application process. Even if you try to work with them to get them anything they may want they are unresponsive. They claim that people who worked in family construction business for over a decade doesn't count towards anything. And getting a letter of recommendation from an employer their wouldn't matter because they're "family" as they put it. They ell me I can go to my pastor, guess I was under the assumption I didn't have to be a Christian to attend here now. This school cares only about one thing and that's is the almighty dollar. They rather have naive kids out of highschool that will waste their parents money than have anybody that actually has a plan and goals fully set. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS SCHOOL.
