I wish that I could give a 0 star rating. Hudson Valley Community College tore apart my dreams. I am in love with attending school, taking classes, and learning. I worked insanely hard so that I could go back to school, and when I finally got there, I looked forward to attending my classes. I'd come home super excited to share what I learned each day with family and friends. I even joined an athletic team for the first time in my life. It was a dream come true, and it was all that I ever wanted. But everything changed when I met the student who wound up sexually assaulting me after I very clearly stated "No" several times. The school put me through a horrible trial process where I had to listen to the boy who raped me lie, and change his story several times. I was laughed at by a coordinator of the process when I asked if during an actual judicial process I could submit myself to a lie detector test. I don't see what was so funny about it. The school did absolutely nothing about it and is allowing the boy who raped me back on campus without any penalty. Not even counseling. I don't feel safe as a student of a school that is going to let another student force themselves on me after I have outright said no, and I certainly don't want to give them any more of my money out of pocket if they aren't going to protect me or let me finish the rest of my degree in peace. I have withdrawn from my classes, requested my money back, and am seeking to continue my education elsewhere. I am a determined, passionate, intelligent student and HVCC lost that. Go right ahead and keep your rapist student who uses your campus as a hunting ground rather than a place to learn. Anyone who plans on attending this school, just know that the boy who raped me is allowed back on campus and was shown by this school that there is no repercussion to forcing himself onto another student. Be weary of other students, and I pray that you're able to work towards your dreams without having them completely derailed by someone who doesn't understand what the word "No" means, or a school that doesn't understand it either. Don't even try to respond to me with your regurgitated "Providing a safe environment for our students is a top priority" nonsense. You can copy and paste it over and over again, but you didn't provide a safe environment for me. You put me through hell. I cry every single day because of how much I love school but had to let it go so that I could feel safe. It shatters my heart over and over again, but I will pick up the pieces and I will go on to do great things with my life. Just not as one of...
Read moreI am a returning student from around 2008 and I took the spring semester and am now finishing my associates in the summer. Honestly my experience was very good with professors and advisers. I am a fully online student so I don't deal with the professors in person. I would have given a 4 or 5 star review until this past week. According to the website for the school bookstore, the bookstore is run by a non profit organization and "all profits go towards improving the student experience." That may be true but they must be running short on funds because my experience at the bookstore was horrid. I went last Wednesday and purchased books for the summer semester. I gave the employee my schedule with all my class info including numbers for the classes. The books were expensive but they always are so I didn't think much of it. I got home and found that 2 things were wrong. One of my classes didn't need a book but an access code for an online resource. They gave me the incorrect product. I also received a book for my Modern China class which is a small book and only available new with no used copies available. I got home and looked at the book and the front cover was bent in half and half of the pages top corners were bending quite a bit up. It would not have really bothered me if not for the fact that renting a new book is around $125 and renting a used one is around $85. It is unacceptable that they sold a used book as new. That is very unethical and ridiculous. I called them and was told I could bring the book back in and get a better copy. Not knowing what was going to happen I return to the bookstore while taking time off of work because of a mistake that they made. They refused to admit responsibility in either of these mistakes. They were adamant that this book about China is brand new even when the new copy they gave me was in much better condition with a completely flat cover and pages. The worst part is when they went to get the book the employee who was "helping," me asked her helper to go see if he could find a "pristine," copy for the customer. She was mocking me due to the fact that I did not want to accept their used book as a new book even though they were blatantly lying. I am just ecstatic that this is my last semester at HVCC and I will never have to deal with these condescending, rude, and dishonest people at...
Read moreI applied at Hudson valley in nov, 21st 2016. I kept calling the admissions department because as a student I was trying to find someone to guide me in my first experience in college. No one ever called me I had to call to check the status of my FAFSA and the application procedure, the lady that works in admissions is so unprofessional she only answers what you ask her she wont guide you through the process and doesn't show interest in what you're trying to accomplish. I had the same issue in the financial aid department I had to submit 2 FAFSA, went there so they could help me fill out the verification worksheet after everything was submitted and she told me that everything was processing on Friday. I received an email on Monday(last day to have everything ready) saying that my verification worksheet had a mistake and that I had to go there to fix it or fax It to her. Mind you, I am speaking with the person who told me that everything on the worksheet looked fine. I was late because of the miscommunication of some staff member. I went to cashier to pay my 50% of my FAFSA and they never said that there was a fee for re scheduling the classes I found this out through my boyfriend who was speaking with another staff member. I mean HOW LONG should it take me to enroll? I was trying to do everything as early as possible because I am on my own and I work full time at a bank. They need to really have everybody giving out the RIGHT information because nobody wants to waste their financial aid on a college that has poor staffing and wrong information wherever you go. Orientation department and the health department were the only people that helped me and guide me through what I had...
