We'd wanted to try the Tipsy Moose for years--we are major fans of the place next door, Deli & Brew (whose NY-style pizza is the best in the region, but who are known in the area for their sandwiches). Every time we'd pick up a pizza at Deli & Brew we'd say that we really should try the Tipsy. Finally we did. I ordered one of their Maple & Coffee Whiskeys and a beer-battered Reuben and my wife ordered the Mac n' Cheese (bacon and tomatoes added). First I have to say that other than the Deli & Brew location next door to Tipsy the best sandwiches in the area can be found at JC's Deli on Central Ave, in the Kohl's strip mall. They are tremendous and you should try them out--and don't miss out on the cookies. Anyway, somehow, in some alternate universe scenario, Tipsy Moose made a sandwich that was simply better than anything I'd ever received at JC's. (This is not supposed to be possible). The beer-battered bread was of such a consistency that I can only compare it to the very best fried fish I've ordered in British-style fish & chips joints (I'm talking consistency, not taste, people). It was perfection. Heavenly. The sandwich--technically not a Reuben at all, but a Rachel as it is filled with turkey, and I do mean filled--was generous in proportion and, well, exquisite. The Mac n' Cheese is really what they are known for, I guess. Very large portion (I'd say there are three meals in there). Flavorful. I'm not a real connoisseur of mac. It was good, very good. The whiskey? Amazing. Try it, especially if you are a fan of espresso martinis. It kind of tastes, to me, like an espresso martini should taste like (as to that I like mine Irish, with Irish Creme...yum). I will eventually buy a bottle. Or two. So this place, while on the small side and whose music might play a bit loud (not too bad, but we were seated under a speaker), will get a return visit from us, and should also get a visit or two from you all out there in internetlandia. Oh, service was good too,...
Read moreI'm glad we finally got into this place that has very little seating so that I know that I'll never go back. It's my birthday so I wanted to check out somewhere new. Told the server it was my birthday and I'd heard they do a free growler on your birthday. She confirmed that but didn't offer a "happy birthday". No big deal but would have been nice. She wasn't overly friendly nor attentive the entire time and the food was meh at best. I asked to see a draft menu in case I wanted to try something. Took her a while to get it but she never came back to see if I wanted anything so I never tried the beer. We ordered soup and the mac and cheese for my kids to come out first. Everything came out at the same time instead. My mom got some turkey Reuben that wasn't even warm. I got a BLT with bread that wasn't so much toasted as it was warmed until dry and crumbly. The french onion soup was very bland with what seemed to be a large piece of plain white bread as the crouton and the onions were undercooked. My kids' mac and cheese seemed ok but I didn't try it. We got a side order of sweet potato fries that were ok but not very hot. No dessert on the menu so that added to my great birthday experience. I thought I'd get to choose a beer for the growler but they give you some gross lager instead. I gave 2 stars because the food was edible and the fries and mac and cheese were good sized portions. Definitely won't go back. Wish I'd...
