Captain Steve Sailing — Local services in Town of North Hempstead

When I first contacted Captain Steve, I immediately became comfortable by his phone personality. He was professional, engaging, flexible and transparent. Booking and confirmation was a breeze. And on every inquiry leading up to the trip, he was always very responsive.

The boat itself is well-maintained, though it felt a bit smaller than I had in mind. We were a group of 6 adults (maximum allowable capacity), and the cockpit area was just about enough for sitting comfortably. More adventurous types could certainly create more space for themselves by venturing onto the forward deck…conditions permitting.

It was an overall excellent cruise. Captain Steve was engaging and affable throughout, readily sharing his sound knowledge of the scenic coastline and of sailing generally….including his own adventures and experiences.

We did the sunset cruise. Earlier in the day, I was concerned that it was going to be too windy and chilly. But it turned out perfectly. The breeze was just about right to enable good sailing, and we actively participated in handling the boat….which added to the enjoyment.

I had expected that Steve would be very precise about being back at the dock by the scheduled end time. But he was so relaxed about that, as we sat around in the harbor and enjoyed the night sky and lights for a while longer. It of course helped that this was his last cruise of the day. But it was obvious that he was all about ensuring that his passengers maximized their enjoyment.

Captain Steve hosted us for a wonderful private sunset sail as a surprise for my husband’s 40th birthday and the entire experience exceeded expectations. From the moment I reached out to inquire, Captain Steve was extremely responsive and shared ideas about where to sail. When we arrived, he welcomed us onto his boat as if we were old friends, inviting us to make ourselves at home. Everything was extremely clean and spacious for our group of 6. We brought dinner and had plenty of room to set up below deck. We left all our worries at the dock as we set sail with Captain Steve on the Long Island Sound. I would highly recommend Captain Steve for any sailing adventure and can’t wait to book...

I did ten hours of sailing lessons with Captain Steve over four sessions. I learned a ton. I was interested in learning how to sail a bigger boat such as this one, and it was a wonderful experience. Captain Steve is friendly and patient, and he's a great instructor. Scheduling was very easy, and he made it so we could pick days where there was good wind. Plus, it was just fun being out there on the water. I had considered more formal sailing schools, but this worked perfectly for what I needed. One learns best through experience, and we got a lot of sailing experience in. Plus anchoring, mooring, etc. The boat is really nice, and it's a beautiful place to sail. I hope...
