The Knitting Place — Local services in Town of North Hempstead

Since moving to Port Washington almost twenty years ago, I have shopped at The Knitting Place.

The owner, Dina, and her staff (Pam, Lisa, and Barbara) have expertly helped plan my projects, troubleshoot my mistakes, and celebrate my finished objects. They teach with seemingly infinite patience. They’re always gracious and humble despite their many talents and knowledge base.

I love to visit local yarn shops when traveling and it makes me realize how lucky I am to have this particular one so close to home. Dina keeps plentiful inventory including materials for the latest trends as well as the classics. I’ve enjoyed attending the relaxing knit nights, fun classes, indie dyer trunk shows, and a guest speaker.

I recommend reserving instruction time in advance (sold in 15 minute increments) as the shop can get busy. The staff is always happy to answer a quick question but depending on the day, there might be a little wait. Personally, this is my favorite time because of beautiful yarn and knitwear to explore. I went to the Knitting Place today with a treasured pot holder. I explained repeatedly to staff I had purchased it over 40 years ago at a midwest garage sale and it is my favorite pot holder. I was looking for help learning how it was made so I might be able to duplicate it. An employee/owner? asked another person (employee/customer?) to help me. This person examined it for a minute. Then without asking if it was ok with me, she unraveled part of the pot holder, gave me an overview of what I'd need to duplicate it and then handed me back my now damaged item. Others in the place verified it was very difficult to produce & I should take care of it. NO ONE offered to repair the damage. I have found these ladies on Instagram I live in Arizona I have bought three different orders of yarn adding up to quite a bit it is beautiful they have a huge selection love watching them on Instagram unbox their yarn I think the service is great it usually gets to me pretty quickly and the ladies are very responsive when you email them I would love to be able to visit the store I’ve never been to that part of the country love you ladies hope to get to meet you one day and when you get...
