I encountered a significant issue with Bassett Furniture in Victor regarding a wool rug and dining table I purchased for $7,500. The designer was at my home several times and was aware that I have an older dog who occasionally has accidents on the carpet. My concern with Bassett is that they are selling a rug made of a combination of wool and viscose that is very difficult to clean, especially if a stain occurs on the viscose portion. I was never warned that this carpet was unsuitable for households with pets or children. I was told by several rug cleaning specialists that the carpet could not be cleaned or repaired by re-dying the stained area; I spoke with my representative at Bassett Furniture, who admitted she does not recommend these rugs for families, but still suggested this particular carpet for my application, who has a pet. If I had known that cleaning the carpet would be nearly impossible due to the viscose—which is essentially a paper product—I would have made a different choice. I contacted several reputable companies in the Northeast, and they suggested that furniture retailers use these carpets to compete with higher-end carpet specialty stores that sell wool and silk carpets at a premium. The combination of wool and viscose allows furniture stores to offer carpets that resemble high-quality options at a lower price. I think Bassett Furniture, in my opinion, should sell their furniture and not provide carpets, Hunter Douglas blinds, and Carol drapery. Bassett Furniture was significantly more expensive, almost double that of Decor Fabrics and Design, which specializes in Hunter Douglas blinds and custom drapery fabricated in their workroom in Buffalo. I will never buy anything from Bassett Furniture, considering there are better options in Rochester, such as Stickley for furniture and the Decor for blinds...

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Bassett Furniture in Victor, NY, following a $7,500 purchase that included a dining table and a wool-viscose area rug. A designer from Bassett visited my home multiple times and was fully aware that I have an older dog who occasionally has accidents on the carpet. Despite this, I was never informed of the significant cleaning limitations of the rug they recommended. The rug is made from a blend of wool and viscose, a material that numerous rug cleaning specialists have since confirmed is extremely difficult—if not impossible—to clean. Viscose, often described as a paper-like fiber, is highly absorbent and prone to staining, with limited options for cleaning or re-dyeing. This critical information was never disclosed to me prior to purchase. When I later raised my concerns with my Bassett representative, she admitted that these rugs are not suitable for households with pets or children, yet it was still suggested for my home. Had I known about the fragility and maintenance challenges of viscose rugs, I would have made a very different decision. To add to the frustration, Bassett’s management offered me a 40% discount on another rug, which completely missed the point: my complaint is about the quality and appropriateness of the product sold, not about getting a deal on a replacement. A discount on another unsuitable rug does not resolve the core issue. I now deeply regret not reading the numerous negative reviews of Bassett Furniture prior to my purchase. This experience has left me feeling misled. Going forward, I strongly recommend that potential buyers exercise caution and conduct thorough research before making any significant...
Read moreIt was a pleasure to work with Michelle Nichols Martocello in selecting our living room furniture. I scheduled a showroom appointment with her at the Victor store, and she showed me specific pieces that she thought would fit what we wanted. I appreciated that she knows the merchandise, and what looks good together. I also explained that we have furniture that has been in the family for decades, and that we wanted to keep, but were not sure how it could fit together with a more modern look. We appreciated that Michelle came to our home and measured our space and gave some suggestions about where we might move some things to make room for new furniture. When I returned for the follow-up meeting to review the suggestions, I absolutely loved everything she picked (and I bought it all). I would not have thought to put the different pieces together, including the lamps and the end tables, and Michelle put together a cohesive look that will fit perfectly in our space. Throughout the process, Michelle was extremely pleasant and helpful, never pushy, and straightforward. I am a very busy person, so I appreciated that she really listened to me, and moved us in the right direction. Michelle, thanks again for your suggestions. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and not stressful process to furnish our...
