Lovely Ladies — Local services in Town of Wallkill

I understand that consignment shops have become big business, but it shocks me how many store owners behave as though they're doing consignors a favor by taking their goods. These owners would do well to remember that without us---they have no business. The owner of Lovely Ladies (and the staff) are prime examples. I have consigned there three times----always bringing items that were clean, good quality, and in excellent condition----most of which have sold. The last two times, the staff and owner were extremely rude, brusque, and absurdly rigid. This last time, I brought about eight items----mostly new, with the tags still on them. In addition to the generally surly attitude of the staff there, the owner wanted to deduct 10% of the consignment commission because I had brought the items (mostly pants) in neatly folded, rather than laid flat and draped over my arm----as is specified in her consignment agreement. I wasn't aware of this requirement, as I had previously brought in mostly handbags and tops on hangers. Rather than politely explaining the policy and giving me the benefit of the doubt, as I am a relatively new consignor, she rudely chastised me and insisted on adhering to this absurd rule. When I told her that wasn't acceptable, she rudely told me to "just to take everything."

When did it become good business practice to treat customers and clients rudely? Clearly this owner feels she is doing well enough that her consignors are dispensable (and I can see from other comments, shoppers have had similar negative experiences.) Lovely Ladies certainly won't be burdened with my...

I used to come here a lot before the pandemic and brought in a bunch of clothes for consignment. There used to be an online portal where I could check my balance. The last time I was there I had a balance of $254.74. Then I noticed at one point that I couldn't log in anymore, and when I reached out to them they told me they had a new system and that they had no record of my balance and would not honor it.

I had a lot of vintage Marc Jacobs, DKNY, dresses, jackets, handbags, etc. The old portal had shown they all had sold, but they told me they wouldn't give me my money "because we don't have a record of it anymore". Since the portal was down, I had no way to prove it, other than my own record of my existing balance.

I kept trying to reach out to the owner, but she finally ghosted me, leaving no other option than to write this review. To me it's about personal integrity...you either do the right thing and honor/trust your long-time customer, or you don't.

Bad Karma for this store...

I have consigned at this shop sporatically for several years. On my last visit, the owner was incredibly condescending. A simple “We have more pants than we are selling right now.” would have sounded so much more professional! She deigned to take two skirts, the rest was loaded into my bag like it was trash! I told her to close my account. The owner should know that when people bring items to a consignment shop, they hold those items with some regard. You KNOW that you’re judging and measuring someone’s inate sense of value. The “screening process” at Lovely Ladies is disrespectful and kind of vicious! Do yourself a favor, donate your items to charity (like The Goodwill, The Salvation Army or a shelter or church) or an online seller. Someone will be thrilled to obtain your donated goods...and you’ll feel emotionally rewarded instead...
