The food is great here and it's in a very convenient location - I would give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for something upsetting I witnessed last night: I came in about 7:30pm, a 1/2 hr before closing to get some hot food for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised to find there were still so many options left. I quickly grabbed one of the stuffed cornish hens - yum. As I was just about finishing filing my container, I watched as an employee proceeded to slowly one by one, take all the food left in the hot bar and throw it straight in the trash bin in front of me. I was totally shocked because there were a ton of trays (mac n cheese, chicken cutlets, vegetables etc) that were still almost completely full being thrown out. Then I watched as three whole cornish hens completely untouched were thrown in the trash too - effectively meaning that these three hens lived and died for consumption for literally no reason. Not to mention the ecological impact of raising these hens (as well as the rest of the meat being tossed) was all for nothing. So wasteful and shameful. I almost walked out, I was sick to my stomach. I checked out - $44, for food that was being thrown in the trash anyway. Overall the whole experience made me very sad and disappointed in this supermarket. My message to the owner: This is a family supermarket right- why not think of your family/community in the Hudson Valley? There are many organizations in the Valley that would be able to take your food off your hands at the end of the night and give it to our neighbors in need. You could also probably get some kind of tax credit for the daily donations so this would actually prove to be more cost effective than simply throwing it all out. Another idea would be to make your hot food 1/2 price after a certain time each evening so you can increase the likelihood that there will be much less left when the store is...
Read moreWe moved to Putnam Valley from Kingston and immediately missed Adams, the store we used to go to in Kingston. Found DeCicco when I went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription. I immediately fell in love. They have LOTS of premade meals that are changed daily, like lasagna, meatloaf, grilled veggies, mashed taters, etc, like 8 different entrees plus 2 soups that you can take out. If you live alone or with just one other person, you could elect never to cook again! Plus they have a full deli, a bakery, and very fresh and extensive produce, too.
Everybody who works there has been very pleasant and helpful (special nod to the really nice guy in produce who jokes with me everytime I go there--last time he told me the avocados came from Japan just to see if I'd believe him). Friends claim their prices are higher than Shop Rite and other local chains but I don't care. First of all, it's a completely different experience at DeCiccos; personalized service (they even take your order over the phone and deliver it to you for just $10 the SAME DAY you order it). Plus I like supporting local merchants. AND today I went to Shop Rite just cause a friend said I should try it out and frankly, I do not think the prices at DeCicco's are higher, the store is cleaner and just feels nicer to me.
Maybe I'm a food snob but I gotta tell you, if you love good food and good service, DeCicco's is worth your patronage. PS There's a great little liquor store in the same shopping center as well as Taconic Pharmacy which is fabulous and not a dime more expensive than CVS in my experience PLUS Taconic Pharmacy will deliver my prescriptions.
PS I don't work for DeCicco's, I don't do their marketing, I have no connection with them at all other than being a fairly new customer. I had to say that cause when I reviewed my post I sound like my kid owns the place...
Read moreI went in the store to buy something at the bakery. I walked in to see one of the bakers yelling at an employee with Red hair. She looked like she was being bullied. Not only did I hear this elderly women yelling at this employee, but yelling and giving an attitude to a customer soon after. All of that shocked me, Why hire someone at a bakery that sounds miserable and treating their own coworkers like that. I hope someone talks to this women and explain that’s not how to treat people. I am surprised she still has a job with that behavior. I will very likely never shop there again after that experience. I seen so many nice staff members at the bakery and seeing one of them feel like being torn apart by this elderly staff member is...
