04.05.24 Worst DMV I've been to!
Took my son for his learner's permit & the lady at the front desk asked a few questions & told my son that if he didn't pass the test that he'd have to pay a lot of unnecessary money to take a class before he could come back again for a retest! Nice way to add extra stress to someone who's already nervous about taking a test! She may not have intended for that to happen & maybe she was trying to do some reverse psychology to have him really scrutinize the questions & answers but it did the opposite. Just give people the appropriate paperwork & their ticket without adding unnecessary stress to people. A little chit chat is fine but don't throw out disparaging comments.
The woman at the window asked if my son wanted to be an organ donor. He looked at me because he didn't recall having been asked that before. I gave him an answer & the woman said it was HIS choice. It WAS his choice regardless of what I had to say but he looked at me for guidance since he didn't recall ever being asked that question! Just do your job & record the answers given! Leave family matters to the family!
Then the guy at the testing area was absolutely rude as hell! He spoke degradingly to 2 different individuals who were foreign & who obviously didn't understand what was being said. Then he told my son to go to testing station 3. My son was looking around & asked if it was the one he was standing by. The guy hatefully said, "THAT'S FOUR!" The numbers on each station weren't facing from where they could be seen as you entered the row of computers, they're on the inside divider facing away from you. So you have to walk up into the area & look at the stations where you sit at in order to find the correct station number. I don't know if the guy was having a bad morning or what but a little kindness & empathy would go further than snapping & talking down to people!
Ultimately, each interaction at this particular DMV created more stress than it did to create an inviting, calm & professional experience! We had been going to the DMV in Ashland & have no complaints with them! Each time I've been there they've been courteous & extremely professional! You didn't feel like you were being a problem or a hassle to the employees at that location! I won't be going back to this DMV for a very long time! I'll drive across the river to Chesterfield if I have to before ever considering going back to this location...
Read moreit honestly reminds me of when I got my license at 16 years old because thatâs where I went and it really hasnât changed and Iâm now 50s which is ironically scary to see kids driving these days Iâm like are you old enough to drive lol anyway, theyâre much more efficient now. Much more efficient than the DMV main building on Broad Street downtown. You can wait a couple hours there, they have everything divided up in weird numbers youâll never understand. And some things take longer than others. However, thereâs a check in area and theyâre very helpful. Also, itâs important to call ahead if youâre getting a real ID, and also itâs important if youâre getting your license changed from an out-of-state license to a Virginia drivers license because they require specific documents and finally itâs really important to call ahead to see if the lines are really long and sometimes during Covid they required appointments and they only had certain days that they would address certain issues. I literally walked in there one day I got my tummIe plates which is great because you can give back to charitable organizations at a lower price by buying license plates for your colleges or whatever youâd like to get but I support the RICHMOND animal center and control and I really supported the Tommie effort and the license plates were no more than William and Mary plates. Plus, thereâs a real community of people out there that enjoy this plate and they have a Facebook page for people with Tommie thereâs also ones that have cultural identification, mainly college plates are very popular and you can pick them out there and the vest selection of the plates available Will astonish you. It cost a fraction more to get these plates and it does something personal to your car without being vanity. Just make sure you donât go during lunchtime because then youâll never leave fly for a couple of days the people there are very very very good efficient and friendly. Just donât get on their bad side. All in all, I think this is the best DMV in the COMMONWEALTH Virginia and that includes Williamsburg, Northern...
Read moreI went with my son to apply for his driverâs learner permit on December 26. I only needed a clarification with a Selective Service statements on the back page of the application form. My bad, I didnât know that a person who holds a permanent resident status in the US must be referred for the selective service. In Canada, there is no such requirement unless a person/ an immigrant/ permanent resident voluntarily chooses to join. Due to my confusion, I checked the wrong answer box and politely asked the man at window 2 to hand me the form back so I could double-check and correct my answer. Not only he refused to hand it back to me, but he was also very condescending and rude in the whole situation. In short, my son and I were treated as incompetent, stupid individuals. Apparently, I was supposed to âcheck It offâ and figure it out by myself. I asked to speak with the manager. The manager directed us to another person. That was it.
We also saw another person in the room at the check-in desk who raised her voice as an apparently confused man who didnât seem to speak English fluently, and who didnât know where to go. She refused to explain to him what the procedure in the waiting room was.
Iâd imagine that the individuals employed in governmental institutions are there to serve us, the people, not vice versa. This condescending, arrogant attitude and overblown egos are becoming more prominent these days. We will not visit this location again, and I probably hope in vain that the above described gentleman got...
