My Empanada — Restaurant in Virginia

Healthy baked empanadas with so many stuffed options. Tucked behind a gas station, kinda hidden from Quioccassin road. Take out only, though we just sat on the stools and finished our food. This Saturday lunch, we opted for the mix and match 4 plates, $10 each having 3 pieces. The empanadas are warm and just right to eat right away. Three different sauces too to add flavor. I was hoping for more hot menu options though. My pick is the quinoa black bean corn one - a perfect mix of veggies and great taste with an ancient grain. Kids are happy with the RVA chicken and cheese option. Lady had the chicken and potatoes one with the red sauce. Veggie and spinach ones were okay. We didn't try the breakfast egg chorizo and the beef versions only. The boy insisted we get the sweet alfajores, which he ate later at home, being so full with just two; a treat for having finished.

The helpful lady mentioned their Wednesday deal, 4 for $10. Maybe we will be tempted though still pricey for appetizer stuff!! I tried the Breakfast Empanada, the RVA Empanada, and the Sweet Guava Empanada and was blown away! The Breakfast Empanada was packed with a combination of delicious flavors and the chorizo really brought the dish together. The RVA Empanada was so juicy and flavorful, and the guajillo chili sauce gave it the perfect kick. The Sweet Guava Empanada was my favorite of the bunch-it was the perfect blend of sweet and savory, and the guava flavor really made it special. I also enjoyed the Kale & Apple Salad-the tangy flavor of the dressing balanced the crisp crunch of the vegetables perfectly. Finally, the Alfajores were incredible! The dulce de leche and coconut combined in the shortbread to create a mouthwatering dessert. To round out the meal, I tried the Papaya smoothie made with almond milk and it was refreshing and creamy. Great customer service. Empanadas are very tasty. I don’t recommend the spinach empanada though, mine barely had any filling. I used to love the alfajores but probably won’t buy anymore. They used to put the filling on the entire cookie but it’s only put on the edge, plus the price went up. They used to have a daily special for empanadas but they don’t anymore. The lady said she was giving me the sale price but after I thought about it, it wasn’t really a sale because she ended up owing me an empanada. Not sure what happened to this place but It’s still the best alfajores in town. If I’m in the area I’d stop by but only if I felt...
