Within the first month of a new membership with this facility, a stall in the women's restroom had already gone out of order, as well as one of the sinks. Within the first week, I attempted to use a massage bed and the male attendant was unhelpful in assisting me with getting it in operation. He said it would take a minute to start up, and when I went back five minutes later bc nothing happened, he simply told me to give it another minute. When I returned to the front desk bc it still wasn't operating, rather than looking into it (bc that would have required him to move from the front desk), he simply told me, "Oh, actually, I think that one is broken," and offered to start a massage chair instead, which was entirely different. Not having the time to wait any longer, I just left. The stretching/mat room is also overcrowded, likely due to the underestimation of the use of free space. When I attempted to use one of the other rooms to work out bc this one was full, the staff was pretty unfriendly about requesting me to move.
Overall, I'm actually pretty dissatisfied with the quality of service and the facility itself, although superficially, it looks nice and clean because it's still new. I agree with one of the other comments that the staff could be slightly more engaging, and perhaps the facility itself just needed a test run before kicking into full gear and getting everything fully operational. So far the location off Costco Marketplace & I-10 has been my best experience.
I'm also slightly disappointed that Planet Fitness does not offer fitness classes, like yoga or aerobic-style cardio, e.g, Zumba. The flyer mentioned classes, but I didn't realize they meant classes on how to use the equipment. I'll give this gym a little more of my money simply because it's more convenient than other gyms, but it's definitely not at the...
Read moreI really liked this gym when I joined, however I chose planet fitness due to it being advertised to be open 24 hours. I do shift work and need availability between 11pm and 5am. In December less than six months into my membership they changed the hours “temporarily” due to staffing shortages supposedly. It is now the end of June and they still close at 9pm. I went from using the gym several times a week to not going in hardly at all because essentially for a shift worker they are only open in the middle of the night. I called to check on this just now to see if there are plans to go back to the originally advertised 24 hours that I signed up for and the staff isn’t knowledgeable about any of it and didnt seem to care much I was put on hold informally (just started talking to someone else) as they were getting someone to sign up and when back on the phone said well I can cancel my membership… okay will do if its like that. Basically theres an apathy about the place and Im not trying to be treated like I dont matter. There are 24 hour gyms in town. Gonna be joining over there. This gym went so incredibly down hill, staff used to actually be cool and care, now they all seem to kinda hate their job. Offputting. Id look elsewhere for a gym, planet fitness is nothing special and is comparable to several other gyms in town in this price range, the only advantage they had was the 24 hours before. Honestly chuse is cleaner, I switched from them because if the hours but now the hours are the same so if youre making a decision between them you will be happier with chuse....
Read morePlanet Fitness is geared toward individuals who want a less intimidating gym experience. In my experience with gyms, every time I ended up going, there was more pressure. People comparing themselves to each other, competition, people would give you their unsolicited advice, and just pushing to the next goal. While it's not bad to push to the next goal, Planet Fitness creates an environment that is more focused on celebrating each victory as it happens. Instead of saying, "That's nice, but you aren't done yet," Planet Fitness and their staff helps you to feel pride in what you've already done. Their Judgement Free Zone discourages the more intimidating attitude. The Lunk Alarm is in place if somebody is grunting loudly, yelling through their set, throwing weights, and otherwise making a scene (because at some point, all that excessive behavior is about attention, not your workout).
If you're looking for a more typical gym experience, with more involvement from those working out around you to motivate you, Planet Fitness is not for you. However, if you are self-motivated and can set your own pace, and know how to take pride in your personal landmarks in your own progress, this the place for you. If you're anything like me, and don't appreciate being interrupted and approached during your workout, you'll find the solitary experience you're looking for here, where you'll be able to focus on your own fitness. A great gym for the introverted and antisocial! Plus, this location is open 24 hours, so it's perfect for those who work...
