Changing Places — Local services in Urbandale

Bought two pieces from this place... Decently happy with the first, VERY unhappy about the second. The first was a beautiful king size bed which was overpriced (could find it elsewhere for cheaper when it was used! When I asked her about it she said "Well the consignor gets only 40%" which hey, when you're consigning something you're not going to get the full value of it!) but once I got it home I loved it so no regrets there. The second piece was a rug that was quite large and listed on their tag as "wool" which I specifically bought for that reason since my dog sheds so much. I get it home and unroll it and the original tag on it says it is made out of nylon. When I called the store they really didn't care and said they'd check with the consignor about a price change and just never called me back.

Basically just have two pieces of advice for this place. 1. Check their prices, they think that just because something was originally worth a certain amount that they can sell it for that much and 2. Beware of FALSE ADVERTISING because that is exactly what they wool rug issue was. If you don't know what it is, don't put it...

Changing Places undoubtedly made it possible for me to move, at all! Sorting accumulated stuff from my own 80 years plus that left to me from my mother's 98 years was a seriously daunting proposition. The fact that an auction was an integral part of the process made it a "piece of cake." Clearly the Changing Places people were experienced in moving: the timing, finding the best movers, and the confidence and encouragement needed to move forward with what seemed like an impossible task. A huge part of this process was the auction. I was surprised at how "easy" it was for me, even as I watched the careful cataloguing, photographing, and valuing of the things to be sold, because that was a detailed process, requiring research to determine the value of some of the items. We have both sold on consignment and purchased furniture and accessories for about 5 years now. New Owner is very friendly although priced our recent consigned items a bit lower than we had hoped for! I would say this is a much better shop to PURCHASE from than to CONSIGN with. The challenge for the new Owner will be attracting and maintaining a great selection of Furniture and Accessories with Her low selling prices!
