It’s like finding a fine jewel hidden in the bushes, a diamond, or maybe an emerald. Something unexpected and precious, something… Completely different.
I went with one thought in mind, but the store itself was arresting and unique. The universe is an interesting place and there are threads that run around and through space and time and intersect now and then, transporting us in an instant to new ideas and new places.
Darbar Halal Market is such a place, at once so familiar and so different so perfect evolving in its own sphere, clean and beautifully arranged. Not just a portal into another world, but a portal into a different way of thought, an introduction to something pure and special.
The place is a treasure hunt of interesting, beautiful and delicious things. Take your time, wander around gaze upon the bounty. So many things I wanted to try, a pomegranate jam, the jar of honey all filled with a perfect scenario of nuts.
There are herbs and grains, baked goods and desserts. And the place is spotless! You can feel the thought and pride that would put such a place together.
As wonderful as all that was, that is not what truly led me to this little jewel in the wilderness. The lure brought me here to this pocket sized establishment, hopeful, and with trepidation was the burger!
I heard (thank you Michael) they made an excellent hamburger and the perfect burger is to me like the perfect feathered fly is to a trout, irresistible and precise.
It would be nice if they had a couple of tables set in a corner so that one could sit down right there at that crucial moment of creation and experience the burger as it should be… Fresh and hot. I know space is tight but a couple of tiny tables to rest my old and weary bones would have been appreciated. With the merciless sun beating down outside and no umbrella, exploring our repast on the sidewalk was out of the question.
Be that as it may, I ordered their Smashburger and my wife, the chicken kebab. And really, the burger was one of the best ones in town. Crispy where it should be crispy and perfectly seasoned. It stands alone in the arena of smash burgers like the ancient redwood stands proud above the mundane forrest.
My wife loved her chicken kebabs, they were tender and savory. She is not an easy audience and as the hunter gatherer of the family her happiness is the ultimate succor.
So thank you Darbar! You made my day. That jar of nut packed honey calls me like the memories of a favorite canine companion, and that ain’t no...

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. To top that they have an absolutely delicious in-house kitchen that prepares some of the most delectable kebabs And falafel. The chicken and beef kebabs were absolutely amazing and served with a bed of delicately flavored rice, a grilled tomato and extremely delicious bread. I was very pleased, not only with the cleanliness and professionalism of this establishment, but the pure quality and attention to detail which is shown in the establishments set up and presentation. both the store itself, and the kitchen are extremely clean and in wide open view.
