I had called this pet store, and pre-payed for a hairless guinea pig before hand and drove almost two hours to pick him up..I live in (plymouth, Massachusetts) and this was LAST MONDAY. just to find out that he has a very bad respiratory infection and pneumonia. I waited in my vehicle with the guinea pig for 30-40 minutes before heading home, just to make sure he would be okay. And, yes the inside of my vehicle was on highest heat. just to clarify..this guinea pig was hooting and wheezing the moment he got in the car.
i had called this pet store back THE NEXT DAY to let them know what was going on and how this guinea pig couldn't breathe and all they said was ''I don't understand why he would be doing that.'' as if they didn't already know what was going on. In their defense after making it seem like it was MY FAULT..they told me i could take the guinea pig back to them or go to the vet. The first man i spoke to prior had told me that they had MAYBE TWO hairless pigs, and after speaking to the the second man....it was obvious that the other guinea pig was also sick and put away in the back.
I understand not everyone is perfect and running a small business is hard..However i would have appreciated some honesty, more kindness and mutual respect, as they knew i had been looking for this specific guinea pig for a very long time and lived hours away. I brought this guinea pig to the veterinarian two days after picking him up and even with pro-biotics, antibiotics and critical care right now.. i am unsure that he is going to last much longer or make it through this. I've had many guinea pigs, and have multiple hairless animals (cats and rats) i am no stranger to maintenance of a hairless animal or rodent. I love animals and this is completely and severely heartbreaking.
Please never again sell a sick animal to the public. This wasn't just another guinea pig, this was another friend and addition to...
Read moreAt first step into the store, seems like a great little mom and pop place for shopping in the aquatic/reptile realm. Once you walk down the aisle lined with small fish tanks completely overstocked I totally changed my mind. I myself am an owner of axolotls. An incredible species non the less extremely cute. When I saw this set up. Well I was floored. Between 8-12ct 3-4inch lotls housed in one tiny tank and no hides. Nipping each other any time they bumped (which was often given the incredibly small space they have) and multiple tanks were filled with them. You can clearly see missing limbs on a lot them which is caused by the nipping and EXACTLY why you do not house axolotls together until they are older, confirmed same gender, and the same size. I have such a deep love for axolotls and it really hurts to see them kept in conditions like this and I hope they realize they are horrible for trying to make a quick buck off of these poor creatures. On a separate note: While I was there for about half an hour, two separate customers came in, one returned a tortoise and the other a large fish(not sure the breed). Multiple dead fish were visible in different areas. As nice as it is to support mom and pop shops, don’t support shops that do not truly keep their animals in...
Read moreBought my rats from here ( 2 years, wasn't very educated about the complete proper care at the time and regret it) First rat died a day later, she was blind. Only reason they got a 2 star is because they gave us our Oreo for free as "compensation"
30+ mixed GENDER rats in 10-15 gallon tank (not completely sure exact size but still horrible). Rats are not meant to be in tanks because their pee contains high amounts of ammonia. The rule is (and sorry if i am wrong, i have not checked in a bit as we have not added any more girls to my family in 2 1/2 years) 2ft of space per rat. If they have about let's say 15 babies, there should be 30 ft (or 10 yards/9.4m) of space.. Rats breed at about 5 weeks, and the store claims they're 8 weeks. They are obviously older than 5 weeks because the testicles are full and down. If you ask, you can go in back and see breeders in absurdly small bins..
I can unfortunately only speak for the rats, as they are what I'm most educated on, but im sure the ferrets are not meant to be in tanks that small, nor all the cockatiels in the small of a cage, as well as...
