I went for the first time today to hang out with some friends for yugioh, and sort my cards that I just got back out of storage and try and build my deck. people asked if they could look at my cards and I said sure not a problem, and people pulled cards out that that were interested in.
The owner asked what was going on and I said how I was just sorting my cards I got back from storage and had tried to sell everything the other day at an event to a store, but they only bought a little bit. and everyone else said they were just looking for cards that they wanted.
Then about 5 minutes later the owner accused me and my boxes as being a reason for one of my friends getting upset and leaving because they were in the way and we had to moved them over. Which isn't true at all, my friend was just tired and didn't want to be there.
Then the tournament ends and I've begun packing my stuff up already after almost finishing my deck, and the owner accuses me of selling cards, which at no point did I ever say I was to anyone. He then gets upset that I never introduced myself and asked if it would be OK to put my boxes on the table at a CARD STORE to go through my cards and hangout. claiming it is costing him overhead. All while him and his wife at no point greeted me when I entered the store or asked if I needed any help when I approached the counter looking at the cards they had on display.
Also, I asked everyone in our group chat if the owner cared if I sold cards and nobody could give me an answer, so I had 0 intentions of selling in his store, and myself and other even told him that I was making sure if he cared. And him and his wife both deny him ever accusing me of anything.
Apparently it is my job to introduce myself and ask for permission to come and do card game related things in your card store.
I proceeded to make sure they knew I would not be returning and banning myself from their terrible business, and their rebuttal was that I'm not welcome back.
Congrats on your $500k in inventory though! Sounded like you have zero clue on hiw to sell online correctly, so I'm sure it'll all...
Read moreI’ve loved card games my whole life. Starting with pokemon and spending a lengthy period of time in the Yu-Gi-Oh realm, I’ve always enjoyed card shops. I’ve dabbled with Magic a bit here and there, but nothing too deep.
I reconnected with some old friends, making new ones in the process, and Magic is their main game. I figured I’d buy a deck that can hold its own while I learn the ropes. Old School Games and Cards was recommended by a few people, so I figured they’d be pretty great. Boy was I wrong.
I spoke with a guy who works there, asking for some help and advice on where to go. We spoke back and forth for about twenty minutes, and he kept trying to sell me the products around the $200 mark. Again, I’m just getting into the game, so that seemed a bit outrageous for step one.
I asked about some of the single precons and each time, the employee kept bringing it back to the bigger boxes.
I told him I’m just interested in one, and would greatly appreciate some advice on what to do. He talked about a few of them and landed on a box that I thought sounded pretty cool.
I sent it to my buddy, and he explained to me how it’s one of the worst decks and was simply overpriced for its outdated, horrendous gameplay.
I call back to see if I could exchange, not return, and the person on the phone sounded as if they’d rather be anywhere else but that phone call. Employee was short and arrogant in tone, bringing up that places like Walmart and target don’t to returns. I wanted to put the money I used for the deck (which I still have not opened) towards something better.
I remember card shops being a haven for fun and excitement, whether it be cards, comics, or consoles, but I tell you, this really spoiled it for me.
Purchase at your own risk, but I think literally anywhere else would be a better place for your...
Read moreI had a friend who wanted to get into Commander, and I specifically told him to check out this store because they’ve always treated me well in the past. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go with him to see what kind of pre-cons they had. Knowing he’s a huge Final Fantasy and Lord of the Rings fan, I gave him some suggestions that would have been a great fit.
He’s a brand-new Magic player, coming over from Yu-Gi-Oh, so he’s still learning the ropes. Instead of helping him find something fun and beginner-friendly, the guy behind the counter convinced him to buy one of the worst Commander decks released in recent years, easily from one of the most lackluster sets in the game. Let’s be real: the only reason to push that deck is because it’s a dead product that no one wants and is impossible to move.
To make matters worse, when he realized what he had been sold, he called back the same day to see if he could at least exchange it for something better. He wasn’t even asking for a refund, just a fair swap. Instead, they hid behind a “no returns” policy, even though the purchase had literally been made that day.
So instead of leaving excited about his first Magic purchase, he walked away feeling ripped off. It’s disappointing and frustrating that a new player was taken advantage of like this. Hopefully the shop owner sees this review, gets in touch, and makes it right by honoring an exchange. If the owner gets in touch and does right by him I'll consider removing...
