I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to share the disgusting actions of some of the employees at this store. Last night was my first ever experience at a Costco. I have been to Sam's Clubs and have heard such great things about Costco from others and articles I have read online. My girlfriend has always been a huge advocate for Costco and last night we were in the area of this location, so we decided to check it out. Up until checkout the experience was pleasant.
We begin to check out when the cashier rudely tells my girlfriend that the cardholder needs to be present. My girlfriend did not know this because in past experiences at Costco she never had an issue using her mom's card. While I completely understand the policy, the situation was handled very rudely and quite poorly. Unfortunately, the situation only got worse from there.
The cashier calls a supervisor (someone higher than her but not quite a manager) to assist with the situation. He tells my girlfriend that if she wanted the groceries that she would for some reason have to withdraw money out of their ATM to purchase the groceries. This demand to use the store's ATM to purchase the groceries made absolutely no sense, but not to cause any issues my girlfriend obliged and I simply sat back soaking in the situation. While my girlfriend went to the ATM to withdraw money instead of just simply being able using her credit card, I stayed back and waited. While I was waiting for my girlfriend to withdraw the money, I very clearly overhear the supervisor mocking my girlfriend. "What is taking her so long!" I hear the supervisor yell. "Haha I don't know!" I hear the cashier join in on the mocking. All of this mocking was done within hearing range of other employees and customers. In addition, my girlfriend has a condition which affects her autonomic nervous system (occasional brain fog is one of the various symptoms). So while the supervisor and cashier are openly mocking my girlfriend for her disability, I am sitting back in awe of such blatant mockery by store employees.
After we complete our transaction my girlfriend, embarrassed by the rudeness of the cashier and making her shamefully walk to the ATM to withdraw money to pay for her groceries for no reason other than to embarrass her, tears up. I am furious from what I overheard and told her what they said about her in front of other customers and employees, and she begins to cry. She is embarrassed because these employees were openly mocking her about her condition in front of the entire store. As my girlfriend goes crying to the car, I could keep silent any longer. I stopped at customer service and asked to speak to a manager.
The manager comes over and talks to me about the issue. I explain to him everything that happened and he seems barely remorseful. Pretty much all I was told was that he's sorry that happened and thanks for the feedback. I was somewhat baffled. He never said any action would be taken against the two employees who openly mocked my girlfriend for her disorder. He never once offered to have the two employees give an apology to my gf. He never explained why she had to use the ATM for the transaction. All that was pretty much said was sorry it happened and thanks for the feedback.
I get home and try to sleep the incident off, but the situation still weighed on me and kept me up for most of the night. I decided today to call corporate today to make sure other individuals with a condition or a disability would not be openly mocked by employees, to receive an explanation as to why she had to use the ATM during checkout other than to pay the ATM fee and to make her take an embarrassing walk from the register to the ATM, and to talk to someone who seemed to actually care about what happened. I did not receive any of that from corporate. The individual at corporate gave me the standard default apology I received from the store manager. Unfortunately I am about to run out of characters for this review, but I hope no one with a disability or condition has to suffer like my...
Read moreFirst , I would like to share that we have been members with the opening of the ,Grafton Wi store. We have always appreciated the quality and value of ,Costco's, products along with their energetic and pleasant employees. However this particular evening at approx. 7:10 pm at the , Menominee Falls unit we experienced a rather rude door person upon exiting. We were in for only a couple of items, when we presented our receipt ,the clerk started yelling out loudly the word " audit " multiple times ,she then goes over to microphone on wall near door again yelling "audit " .Now this is all occuring without her ever taking time to explain to my wife and I what was occuring. When I questioned what was she referencing she then pointed out that there were 10 items in cart and that receipt was showing only 9 ,stating that we would have to go back to cashier in a very rude unprofessional tone. When we checked out the first time there were two employees at register ,one scanning, the other placing our very small number of items in cart. The woman who placed our items back in cart asked if we needed a box to which we declined. By the time we got back to check out lanes there were now 3 then 4 employees at the very last register. From the door person's outrageously yelling out " audit " to the clerk finding that the bag of avacodoes had not scanned due to in her words " bad barcode " this was a very embarrassing, and humiliating experience .A complete failure to dignify their customer . It is hope that the company will spend some additional time in coaching the " receipt reviewers " so that no future customers will have to be subjected to such behavior without first kindly explaining to customer that there is a discrepancy...
Read moreDo not order items that require installation. I ordered a dishwasher that was delivered on time. I had not received any information about installation, which is supposed to happen on the same day. It did not. The installer never showed up. I called Costco Customer service; they told ME to call the shipping company, which also handles installations. Spent 45 minutes on hold. Never spoke to a person. Called Costco again. Asked how they were going to fix the situation. They called their own installation company and couldn't get an answer. I called again that night. Was told that I would be contacted in 24-48 hours. Didn't happen. I called again. Was told--again--that they would be "escalating" my request and that I should receive a call AND email in 24-48 hours. Guess what? Hasn't happened. I have a $1K dishwasher sitting in my kitchen like a paperweight. I could install it myself--I'm handy--but I am afraid that I will therefore void the warranty, which I paid extra for. This has been the most frustrating experience that I've had in years with a retailer, and I'm typically a big fan of Costco. However, if you are planning to have something installed by them--buyer beware!
UPDATE: I filed a complaint against the shipping company with the Better Business Bureau. That got their attention. I finally started getting calls from them. However, by then I'd already installed the dishwasher after it sat in my kitchen for more than a week. Then the dishwasher didn't work properly, so I called Costco's Appliance Service team, and they had someone to my house in 48 hours who correctly diagnosed and fixed the problem. So, some parts of Costco's customer service...
