Okay so this review has two parts, The food and the price. The food truly was delicious and filling. I was just able to finish my bowl but my 8-year-old daughter was not.
I grew up with a good friend being from Laos and he taught me how to make great gourmet ramen. I've been hoping for a ramen house to open near us and was excited to give this place a try. I love spicy food and the spicy miso did not disappoint. My daughter got the beef and spinach and she loved it. We split an order of bun (not to be confused with Vietnamese bun) which has a fun cloud like texture. The eggs we're perfectly soft-boiled and had a velvety smooth texture. The beef was very flavorful and practically melted in your mouth.
That said, for two dishes and an appetizer it cost me over $60 plus a sub 16oz plastic glass of Thai iced tea was $6. The "King and I" Downtown Milwaukee charges $3. They are also charging a "minimum" 15% fee for eating in their establishment and 20% for groups larger than five. My home is 15 minutes away so take out isn't really an option. The place was completely empty which I attribute to the high prices, additional fees and the only mask wearing in the area.... But not because of the food.
I do hope they read this and understand that I enjoyed their food and I will definitely eat there again. But at that price, I will only come on my own or for special occasions for my kids who love ramen like I do. Wish them the...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I stopped in, we both ordered the beef ramen and an order of spring rolls. The food was amazing, the ramen was a huge portion! We were the only ones in there, which I hope isn’t the typical case for the establishment.
The workers were kind and patients as we were unsure as to what we wanted at first. The woman at the counter brought me a water, and eventually our food. Yes, the prices were a bit higher than we were anticipating but for the portion size you get it makes sense.
We did eat in but were not told there would be a mandatory 15% tip/surcharge like the other reviews are saying, but I did see a sign saying that. So I’m not sure if it’s because I had already added a tip or if because there was quite literally no one else there that they didn’t enforce that.
I would suggest to the owners that they should offer different sizes for different prices, that might encourage people to come in and try their food.
Only concerns I noted were the floors looking somewhat dirty, it almost looked like a bunch of sidewalk salt had made its way in. The other concern was a noticeable almost sewer like smell that came and went, but I am thinking that was coming from the...
Read moreI hate posting negatively - but I want everyone to have a rundown before going. We enjoyed the food; the flavor was fine. Nothing crazy amazing, but not disgusting. Solid flavors. The person working noted that 15% gratuity would be automatically added if we wanted to dine in due to limited staff, so we would either need to cancel our order or order to go. I find two things to be frustrating. #1 We wanted to spend more money and purchase alcohol as well, but were not allowed seeing as we were told we could only do to go (if not adding this extra gratuity). We are cleanly people. We've been to other restaurants and understand how to put dishes away and keep clean - would have cleaned up our area ourselves. #2 We have been to several shops/restaurants in Japan were there is only one owner/employee running it and they manage just fine; I don't see how it is out of the question to assume someone can't keep up. There was 1 other person in the location at that time. ANYWAYS - food's okay, expect to pay a fair amount extra if you want to dine in, otherwise, plan to...
