I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with an interaction I had with a manager at the Vista Costco location today, May 7th, at approximately 5:00 PM. I was attempting to return a bracelet that I had purchased as a gift for my husband. The manager who assisted me was a shorter individual with dark hair and eyes, wearing a plaid shirt. His demeanor was immediately hostile and confrontational. Without any polite inquiry, he aggressively stated that I was no longer permitted to return jewelry because, in his words, I had returned every piece of jewelry I had ever purchased. This accusation is demonstrably false, as I am currently wearing four pieces of jewelry that I purchased with my Costco membership. When I pointed this out, the manager visibly became agitated. He raised his voice and insisted that he had only said a portion of my returns were jewelry. He then reiterated that I was permanently banned from returning any jewelry at Costco. My husband and I regularly purchase jewelry from Costco for special occasions like Christmas, birthdays, and holidays. The ability to return or exchange items that are the wrong size or not to our liking is a significant reason why we choose to buy jewelry at Costco. The bracelet I was returning was purchased just two days prior, on May 5th, for my husband's birthday. It did not fit, and I intended to exchange it for a different one. The manager's hostile behavior created an incredibly uncomfortable situation. I informed him that his statement regarding returns did not align with Costco's known policies, and that I typically either exchange the jewelry or wait for new selections. In response, the manager threatened to cancel my membership if I did not agree with his decision. I simply stated that I did not agree. His anger escalated, and he repeatedly said, "Oh ok, well cancel your membership then." Feeling increasingly uncomfortable due to his hostility, I was compelled to leave the service counter. I inadvertently left my headphones behind, and my 11-year-old daughter returned to retrieve them. The employee who had been assisting us, a woman with gray hair wearing a baby blue shirt, condescendingly told my daughter, "Tell your mom we have her receipt for her canceled membership!" While I was at the return counter, my husband was inside the store looking at potential replacement jewelry. Because of the manager's threats, I went out to my car, believing my membership had been canceled and I could no longer enter. Subsequently, my husband approached the same manager to discuss the status of our membership. The manager informed my husband that our membership was being canceled and that we were permanently prohibited from buying and returning jewelry. My husband correctly stated that this was not Costco's established policy. The manager became argumentative and followed my husband towards the exit, continuing to yell about canceling our membership. In an extremely unprofessional manner, he stated, "You abuse the system and return too much jewelry, and you can't return any more jewelry." We were, in fact, planning to purchase more jewelry that day, and my husband was looking forward to doing so. The ability to return and exchange jewelry if necessary is a key reason why we have consistently purchased our jewelry from Costco. I am deeply disappointed and frankly appalled by the unprofessional and hostile treatment I received from this manager. His accusations were inaccurate, his behavior was intimidating, and his threat to cancel our membership over a single return that aligns with typical retail practices is unacceptable. I request that you investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action regarding the manager's conduct. We value our Costco membership and hope to continue being loyal customers, but this experience has significantly impacted our perception of Costco's...
Read moreHave shopped here many times and my most recent experience was so negative that I along with another shopper had to report it the manager. When we were exiting the woman that checked our receipt began rummaging through every single one of our boxes and digging all through every single one our items and taking a very long time and this is was all after she heard us speaking another language. All the other people in both our line and the line next to us got to just walk through with her barely glancing at their cart and marking their receipt without issue but we got hassled in front of everyone and they seriously had us standing there for well over 10 minutes while she unpacked every single one of our boxes and the line behind us was getting so backed so other people were made to wait too. What’s crazy is that we had two different people one help us with scanning items at self check out so I don’t understand how this happened but our kids got upset standing and waiting while everyone was staring at us.
The gentleman behind us had the same experience and told her “this is discrimination” because he saw others in front of us that got to pass through without issue. She said it’s because we did self checkout but we saw others that did self checkout that didn’t get hassled the way we did. She finally had a manager come over to look through all our stuff so we had to continue standing there for at least another 5-10 minutes while he looked through every single item and compare to our receipt and he was at least very helpful but it took some time to get through everything.
I’ve been shopping at Costco for years and have never experienced anything like this. Will not be coming back to this location.
Update: want to include that I just got home and looked through everything only to find that they took back two items that I actually paid for on my receipt. So between 5 different employees including a manager, I can’t missing a few items totaling over $30 so now instead of enjoying the dinner items with my elderly father and children I have to drive back to Costco. If their employee is going to be so diligent and aggressive looking through my stuff she could at least circle what she thinks is missing. The manager that helped me almost took away another item that I paid for and I had to tell I’m to put it back. Still believe this whole ordeal and all that were...
Read moreYou must be a member but the cost is reasonable. They also have different levels. They also offer cash back on most purchases and fuel. While this location does not sell diesel fuel ( a few do) we have a RV that uses diesel and when traveling at 11 MPH even the small rebates adds up. Our last trip to Fla and back was almost 6,000 miles. All our fuel purchases I believe bring in 4% rebate This location is very modern and you will see many people who own business shop there to use products in bulk Over the years Costco has expanded into a good place to get fish and meat especially in larger quantities. They have many departments including eyeglasses and hearing aids and electronics. It is hard to beat their warranty and that is a big plus. My wife likes their fresh produce but admits at time it is just too much to eat before it might spoil so we share with neighbors. Costco is a good place to get tires and I noticed recently they have a nitrogen gas fill for tires. It is outside and appears self service. I am not sure if there is a charge because the tire shop was not open yet. While you can get fuel as early as 6 AM at a discount the store does not until Ten o'clock during the week and 9:30 Sat. We have also started shopping for somethings on line and if you have a problem you can return the item to the store. The one issue at Costco and other stores they just do not have enough people to check out and it gets busy. Our last visit we waited 15 min to get to a check out and only then they opened another station. While they do have express lanes that was also filled so if you can time your shopping to early or later at night and stick to the weekdays as the week end they can get packed. Be sure to get the Costco flier as they often have sales. While you do not need a coupon the sales have a date to...
