Bankston's Comics and Collectibles — Local services in Waco

I went to Bankston's for the first time ever this weekend. It was the BIG comic book shop in Central Texas for so many years. I used to watch advertisements for them.

As far as selection goes, they are top notch for various different items. Statues, figures, comics, cards, Star Wars, etc. They had a wide variety of selection and just walking through the store, if you are a fan of any of these things you will definitely be excited.

The issue I had was in purchasing comic books. So, I purchased some from a long box they just received in from "warehouse" I was told. These books are not bagged or boarded for the most part, and they are priced per the "price guide". The individual I worked with was pricing MOST of the items as if they were in "NM" condition when they obviously were not in that gradable condition. Now I am not saying this to be petty, but I think that if they are going to pick a grade in front of you - either justify it with a reason or move to the next grade down that makes the most sense. I feel I overpaid on some items that have visual flaws on the staple backing and the cover with sticky substances and such.

Other than that experience, comic books that are in the wooden pull out drawers are marked with prices so you pretty much can assess them when you look at them. Still a great store to visit but I probably won't get comic books...

If you see the We buy collectibles don’t buy into that. I have been here twice and haven’t sold a thing. My latest trip included a signed Willie Mays Bat, Payton Manning signed Full Size Helmet, John Elway signed Full Sized Helmet, Joe Montana signed Jersey, Jamar Chase Signed Full Sized helmet, Magic Johnson signed Basketball, Rob Gronkowski signed Jersey and 40 other big named autographs etc. All with COAs and they bought nada! That’s twice, bring in premier items and they got nothing. They did make an offer on 5 items that were in excess of $4000 the offer was $600…… and the kid helping me had no clue about any of it. After striking out the first time the owner told me he likes Anthony Edward’s basketball player the first time through, so I brought him 10 graded Anthony Edward’s cards as a gift…. Yeah I’ll throw them in the trash before giving them to him. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME THESE KIDS ARE ALL FLASH NOT...

If you're chasing nostalgia, Bankston's is the place to be. This is hands down one of the best comic book collections I’ve ever encountered. They have an impressive range—from the latest releases (with plenty of variants) to an amazing selection of vintage and rare comics.

My family and I had a blast exploring everything from comic books and toys to sports memorabilia. I left thrilled with a stack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, and my kids were just as happy with their new stash of Pokémon cards.

What truly sets this place apart is the staff. Mr. Bankston and his team were incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and patient. Their welcoming attitude made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
