My wife and I recently spent some time on Leech lake. Having never fished it before, we decided to hire a guide service to take us out and teach us techniques and areas to find fish. We chose LOA and are we glad we did!! We stayed at Chase on the lake. They greet you with smiling faces, right there on the docks in front the resort. From there, the skies the limit. We chose to fish Walleye but they can catch them all. The gear we used was all like new. The boats were also like new and gave us a comfortable, "dry" ride in a moderate chop. You know, the equipment we would all love to have! They not only brought us to fish but showed them to us on the locators. Showed us how to rig and manipulate the rods, giving us the best chance at hooking and landing them, and boy did we do just that! We caught our limit and then some in a short period of time. I know you won't experience this type of fishing every day but I can't think of any other group of guys we would trust in doing so. Finally, we want to again thank them for one of the best fishing experiences we have had! Thanks, Jim, Chuck, Jason and Jeff!! We will never forget the time we enjoyed...
Read moreSummer of 2019 I reached out to Leisure and Jason Freed about bringing up a bunch of our clients to take on a fishing excursion for a few days at Leech Lake. I had asked Jason for some friendly advice and he led to me a place to rest our heads for the night without asking for anything. After that I booked Jason and asked for the best of the best guides he has. He told me he doesn't have a best of the best. We are the best of the best. I can tell you he was not wrong. They picked us up right from our docks on the cabins he hooked us up with beautiful boats with the all the proper tackle ready to start our day. Within 30 min our customers were catching fish. I believe we caught over 80 fish in two days and 10 walleye over 4lbs. I couldn't have been happier with service Jason and his crew did for us. We have guys asking when we are going back. I would never use anyone other than Leisure to bring my clients to when I go back this summer. I know what I am getting with Leisure and if you don't believe me this is one of the hogs we caught...
Read moreI just watched a YouTube video of these guys using extremely irresponsible catch and release tactics. They intentionally had a pike swallow a sucker before setting the hook and then cut the line (with the hook intentionally in the gut) before releasing it. This would have caused unnecessary internal trauma to the pike. Even if the pike manages to spit the hook or the hook dissolves the AVOIDABLE damage was still done. They also intentionally fished for muskie without the proper release tools and also held the fish without proper support. Many of these guys are muskie guides too so I am positive they know better.
I understand the video was for entertainment purposes, but at least use modern techniques and equipment to prevent harm to fish you intend to release. I certainly hope these guides don't fish this way with clients. Don't set bad examples, others will see this video and think this is how...
