Wow, these guys are amazing! We sent a request for quote and we had very reasonable estimate provided. All the details are spelled out in the quote unlike other moving companies. Since we had a 1 bedroom 900sq ft and we're moving 0.8 miles, it would generally cost ($350) for 3 movers over 3 hours. That includes fuel and other typical charges, as well as a $50 discount. They had availability for our date but were pending a DC parking permit application so could lock down a date for 2 weeks. By the time we had it, the evening spot was available so we booked it. No deposit required. They would arrive any time between 1-3pm and call when here. At 1:30pm we had 4 movers arrive and they promptly parked in our reserved spots and started unloading all their supplies. It took about 5 minutes and they are a hard working bunch with an assembly line style. Super efficient! When I walked up to the apartment with one of the movers we first sat down to review the estimate. There are additional charges if time exceeded 3 hours and there were stairs. As we did not have expensive pieces, we just used the free insurance at $.60/lb. We were impressed by Derrick Dave Chris and Lillay. I basically sat on the sofa and used my phone for the 2 hours it took them to move everything out. They retaped anything that looked questionable. They disassembled and assembled our bed. They carefully moved all ten of our large art pieces! Upon meeting us at our new location, they assessed the setup. I actually forgot there were 4 stairs instead of a ramp and that the door was very narrow. Nonetheless, they moved everything quickly in about 1.5 hours! As boxes and items were brought up, they would ask me where the boxes belonged. In the Future, I would Label these on all the boxes. I was actually able to start unpacking while they brought things up. Ultimately our table didn't fit in the loading dock door, but they managed to get it in the front door. At the ends, they reviewed costs. I paid chef to avoid a 3% credit card fee. With 3.5 hours and some stairs our adjusted cost was $450. It was a great deal and amazing service. Is highly recommend...
Read moreGoing into this move, I really thought my experience was going to be great. Sure, the sales rep (TS) seemed like a used cars salesman in his demeanor but the set-up for the move was an organized and effortless process.
The day of the move everything changed. I understand the importance of efficiency in a 3 hour time slot but there is a line between efficiency and carelessness. The movers—after showing up more than 90 mins after the close of the arrival window—quickly started moving everything without any verification versus the inventory list I had sent ahead of time (important later). Large furniture items were quickly draped in a moving blanket and not properly protected as they were aggressively turned on their sides or upside down. Many of my items were stacked on top of each other in moving “crates” (made of large used boxes by the movers) and shuttled out the door. This resulted in scratches and damage to: my side table, coffee table, TV stand, and bed frame. The same carelessness occurred on the other side, where I noticed a large scratch on the floor after the team had unloaded and left.
Worst of all: the team managed to lose a box with many personal and sentimental items. I never imagined this being an issue as the boxes were going to be loaded on the truck and taken directly to my new apartment. How you lose a box when there are only 27 of them (all neatly stacked in columns) on an IN TOWN move is beyond me!
Upon realizing some of my items were missing, I checked with both buildings and District Relocators. TS has been NO help and keeps providing me empty commitments that he will check the depot or with the foreman—much different than his attitude before I paid them. Every time, it is a different excuse and no follow-up. I am not surprised given many other reviews mention him being a complete flake after something goes wrong on a move.
Personally, I will not be using this poorly managed and operated company in the future. If you value your belongings, I would caution you to pay the extra money to have real...
Read moreDO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. To start the front-man, Tony, was rude, condescending, and unaccommodating. The "contract" is poorly worded and leaves out important information concerning the move - but Tony will make you feel stupid for not understanding the process. When the movers arrived at my new apartment, Anthony (the lead mover) claimed there is a "stair fee," the rate for which is $100 per ten steps. I referenced the contract, which said "a fee for additional flights of stairs." I took this to mean any flights of stairs not reported in the original inventory/request. Nope! Apparently they mean any stairs at all. What kind of moving company is unwilling to go up stairs? And in New York City?? I refused this price, so Anthony began to haggle the price for them to carry my couch up the stairs. Clearly a con! In the end, I simply added a little to the tip, but boy do I wish I had not! At the end of the move, it was discovered that the movers had left my bed rails behind in DC. Anthony promised he would pick them up and return them to me either by mail or with their next trip to NYC. Cue the next three weeks of empty excuses, ignored messages and emails and flimsy promises to call me back/send the rails, etc. Eventually, BOTH TONY AND ANTHONY BLOCKED ME. Straight up blocked my phone number!! My messages no longer said delivered and when I called, the line told me the number no longer existed, which is what happens when you have been blocked. I was absolutely aghast that a company would conduct business this way. Clearly they just did not want to follow up /deal with returning my belongings to me.
Thankfully, I was able to dispute the charge with my credit card company and recoup the money for the lost goods, but no thanks to District Relocators!! This company is full of scummy fraudsters. AVOID...
