Yesterday was my first time shopping at Lidl (pronounced: Lee-dell. Like "needle" but with an "L"). Anyhow, on first contact, I noticed just how clean the store was. Then came the actual content of the store. I was made aware of their croissants being a feature of the bakery section. As I approached the glass door, I thought I may have been approaching the fried chicken section instead. Every croissant was golden brown, which is unlike how a delicate bread such as this should look. I can only deduce that there's someone in the back who takes the dough out of the freezer, tosses it on the baking sheet and lets it rip.
I bought some of the sliced Black Forrest ham, which tasted not unlike typing paper. Unthinkable. I can not adequately describe what a uniquely strange experience this was. In fact, I suggest that the reader buys a bag of it just for the novelty of it.
You can give a piece to your friends for a laugh, and give a bag of it to your enemies for their birthday.
On preparing for this review, I read that Lidl is a German company since its inception in (1932). I would expect better from them.
The aesthetic of the inside of the business is utilitarian. I like that. And in case anyone is feeling a bit peckish for some authentic European items, you just might find them in their International aisle. It's price points are to be comminded, especially given the area, where retail businesses feel obligated to mark up everything and anything they can just because of proximity to Georgetown.
I wanted to love Lidl, but unfortunately, it wasn't to be. Maybe they'll take this critique in the spirit it's given and make changes that are clearly in need of some oversight.
*Addendum: All business related to your shopping experience will have to be resolved in store. They, exclusively, do not entertain phone calls.

Read moreI continue to receive bad customer service here. They only ever have one cashier managing the checkout lanes. That means they are supposed to be doing all of the self checkouts and the regular checkout lanes where they have their green light on. If you go to a regular lane you end up waiting forever because there are always a million problems they are handling over at the self checkouts.
Today, they had some lady cut in front of me at the regular line, after I had already scanned my Lidl rewards QR code on the register. So my rewards from spending over $300 there this month all got applied to her order! I told them that was wrong and asked them to still give me my free items I had out on the register belt. They wouldn’t. So I had to put back my two veggies that were supposed to be free. At a time when groceries are super expensive and people are struggling to put food on the table for their families you would think the cashiers and managers here would have a little compassion for their customers who spend nearly $400 here a month. Nope, not at this store. They’d rather lose a customer than give me the $4.54 in free veggies I earned after spending hundreds of...
Read moreI love lidl and shop at many of them around virginia but this location is so bad I can't express how awful it is. Don't expect customer service, when i shop there i feel like I'm being treated like an inconvenience or worse like a criminal. They have a cop posted at the front of the store which just shows what the store thinks of its clientele. My experience with City ridge as a whole has been horrible but this is the worst of it. I will never go there again and instead go across to McClean which is a great store. Frankly, even though i unfortunately live in DC i am trying to do more of my shopping in Virginia - it's just so much nicer there. If you respect yourself and your dignity don't shop here - there are other lidl locations with much better customer service and better customer experience. It shouldn't be this frustrating...
