I have been part of Metropolitan since 1999—nearly a quarter of a century now—and it has truly become my home church, even with the distance from my house. Here, I’ve found genuine warmth, true love, comfort, and liberation. All three of my children were born and raised in this church, and it has shaped our family in so many ways. An amazing, teacher, preacher, drum major for justice, who models what justice looks like and means, because he walks the talk, that is, Dr. William H. Lamar IV Metropolitan AME Church. He is the recipient of the George Town University’s prestigious O’Neil award for justice. The church is growing as the young and mature are drawn in by the work he does outside the pulpit working with real justice on the streets of captured Washington D.C. and the Washington Interfaith Network.
