This hotel is about a quarter mile away from a Metro stop that takes you everywhere you want to go, including both airports and all of the major sites in DC. I would recommend longer stay in DC. It took us three days (on Big Bus) to see the monuments and Arlington, and then about five days for museums, Capitol, and White House. ||Residence in DT is well equipped for longer stays. We had a full size refrigerator/freezer, cooktop, and microwave. They have coin operated laundry facilities on the premises. There are a variety of restaurants and services within a couple blocks. CVS is right next door and there's a Wawa across the street. Wawa is a kind of convenience store with a full grill for all kinds of fresh food that you order to go. There is a Chipotle on the next block and some other casual dining nearby.||There is a free breakfast at the hotel, fully equipped. The hot food is scrambled eggs, waffles or pancakes, and then sausage or bacon. There's oatmeal, bread, bagels, and fruit.||The staff on site are all incredibly hospitable and went our of their way to fulfill every request and every need. Even the breakfast crew was fully staffed and there were people practically waiting on our table, even though it is served buffet style.||The laundry facilities are important for the length of stay you need to see Washington. The facilities are on the fifth and eighth floor, and coin operated. The front desk has rolls of quarters to use, and there is laundry soap to purchase on site. There are some glitches with the laundry, as there are only two washers and two driers on each of the fifth and eighth floors. Something is always out of order, so you never have four functioning washers and driers on premises. This can lead to problems, such as when there were a total of four washers and two driers functioning.||The rooms were comfortable with adequate and relatively quiet cooling systems. The toilet/shower room was a little awkward as the door swings in, barely clearing the toilet. ||We had a queen bed/sofa bed room. There is a nice long desk and good outlets for plug-in and charging. The sofa bed is really bad to sleep on, one of those foldouts with a thin mattress and lots of hard spots that make it rough for anyone to sleep on. I asked for a topper and the staff immediately delivered a foam pad, which they insisted on installing themselves, making the bed in the process. The hospitality staff cleans and replenishes each room daily.||Check-in and check-out were quick and efficient.||Overall, this was a very good and cost-effective accommodation, though I would not rely on the sofa bed next time. I would compare prices with the Hilton Garden Inn down the street and right across from...
Read moreThis Residence Inn is very well located for a leisure stay in DC. Two blocks to Metro station. Easy walking to the White House and the Washington Mall area, if you’re up to it. Restaurants nearby, Location was central enough that we seemed to get very quick responses when we sought Lyft rides.
The Inn is an older property, but it has been well-renovated, and is clean and efficient. Elevator service was prompt. The room and public areas of the Inn were clean and well maintained. Our 2-queen bed room was large and efficiently laid out, with an efficient kitchenette, which we used mainly for snacks. Everything in the room worked well.
The buffet breakfast area was very spacious, well laid out, very well staffed, and served a good variety of quality food. The staff was extremely efficient.
We regret that our experiences with the front desk staff were not impressive. First, at check-in, the desk clerk told us the room type we reserved was not available, and gave us a vague and flimsy reason why. We did not accept the reason given for not having the room type we reserved, and were told we’d have to come back in an hour, when the supervisors finished a meeting. When we returned, the front supervisor told us that the6 had simply overbooked the room type because a large group was coming in later. She said they didn’t realize we were long-time Marriott Rewards/BonVoy members, and that the desk clerk was simply trying to hold those rooms for the group. In fact, she told the clerk in our presence that they would have to find someone else to change rooms. Not the best way to handle the situation. Secondly, we had a problem with the room staying at 69*, despite our repeated attempts to raise the thermostat. We had to call the front deadline four times over a day and a half before someone finally came to the room, and pointed out that the room actually had two thermostats ... one in an obvious place, and one not so obvious. The front desk should have been either been aware that these rooms are set up like that and told us, or not taken 1 1/2 days and four calls to send someone to the room.
Please extend our compliments to two of the hotel staff.....bellman, Angel, for his great attitude and efficient work. And breakfast buffet supervisor, Elaine, who runs a great crew of good people, and whose outgoing, friendly can-do positive attitude made the beginning of...
Read moreMy wife and I spent our anniversary in DC and chose this hotel for the majority of stay. It was fantastic! Great location (only 3 blocks from the metro, surrounded by great restaurants and easy walk to White House) Our room was on the upper floors and that proved great as it was generally very quiet during mornings and evenings, despite the bustle of a busy city. We didn't use our kitchen, but the appliances and the provided pans/dishes were in great condition. The dishwasher works great (added bonus for me!). The room itself was very spacious, plenty of space to spread out. No luggage holder in our room, but that was ok because there were plenty of tables/desk space to spread out on. The TV had an HDMI cord plug which allowed us to watch Netflix on a big screen (i packed the cord, but I'm sure you could buy one nearby for cheap). The bed was mostly comfortable and the shower spacious and had a massage feature to it that was very nice after a long day of walking around the city.
The neighborhood felt fairly safe, only a few nights coming back did I notice a number of homeless individuals lingering around outside the door of the hotel (which is right next to a 24 hour CVS as well). Overall, a great time.
I will say, unless you absolutely need it for other reasons or personal choice, you don't need a car. We spent 5 days (4 of them at this hotel) and never once thought that a car would've been helpful. If anything, I'd rather stay off the streets in DC!
On a side note, the breakfast was nothing special. It was free though, so I wasn't complaining. The standard fare but by 9:00 it was picked over or cold. Luckily, several bakeries of all sorts right around the corners so I didn't sweat it.
The free internet was strong enough for us to watch 4-5 hours of Netflix without it...
