Last Saturday, I had seen a post on Facebook about a āblind date with a bookā and thought it was a wonderful gift idea for a book lover in my life. I headed to Waxahachie almost immediately in search. For some reason, āThe Southern Mercantileā registered as another place in my head. I will leave this place unnamed. My 2 kiddos and I arrived at the wrong place (unbeknownst to me at the time) around 5:28pm and were immediately greeted with ājust so you know we close at 6ā. Being the people pleaser I am, I said okay! Thanks and set off in search of the bookshelf I had seen in the Facebook post. I should have just asked the lady for help from the jump but chose to look on my own-coming up empty I finally asked for help. She looked at the picture and wasnāt able to locate it based off the booth number. Thatās when I said I had seen the post from āThe Southern Mercantileā she then let me know I was not there, whoops. So I bought some cute elf slippers I had found in a booth and the kids and I quickly darted to the car to drive around the corner to hopefully make it before the real place closed at 6pm. We arrived there at 5:49pm and I immediately said āHello, I know you close at 6pm we will be quickā to which the kind ladies at the desk told me not to worry about it. To be clear, I have worked in retail, I know the holidays are extra hard and dealing with difficult people is no fun. I completely understand wanting to close a store when the hours say you are closed. But for the ladies at The Southern Mercantile to be so kind and not in a rush made the shopping experience so much more enjoyable. The overall cleanliness/lack of dust on the floor was the cherry on top. I will for sure be back for more treasure hunts...

We thought she was going to greet us, but instead she told us there had been some teens stealing and let us know there were hidden cameras everywhere and that if we stole we would be put all over social media. While sheās saying this she was raising her voice. My kids and I immediately left. I will not be going returning. I was just trying to enjoy a day off...
