I wanted to bring awareness to how management and this company treats 16-year-old workers. On November 1st My mother and sister went into Kohl's so that my mom could explain to them that we had a family emergency and my sister would have to miss her shift over the weekend to say GOODBYE to her grandpa. My sister and mom were trying to hold themselves together while trying to inform the management of her absence for the weekend, when management responded "You don't need to work today, and take this time to be with your family. We will mark you as out for a family emergency." After being out for the weekend she returned and worked 2 normal shifts until she went to check her schedule to find out she was let go because of a "No Call, No Show" for a shift that was NOT on her schedule she had on hand. She never got a phone call to check where she was and then management brought up her being gone that weekend for her family emergency. My mom being upset reiterated "It was a family emergency, she was saying goodbye to her grandpa." The manager replied "Doesn't matter it is still held against her and she wasn't available to us when we needed her. My sister was maybe only ever scheduled to 2 days a week, MAYBE. She was available to them they just did not schedule her.
I used to be a store manager and hired several teenagers and adults and I would NEVER dream of firing ANY of them for having to say goodbye to a family member. I'm completely appalled by the actions and response from such a large company. In my opinion, don't hire 16-year-olds if this is how you will treat them. As an adult working for a company when I also needed to take off for this family emergency, it was NOT held against me and for a 16-year-old I feel like it should have not been held against her. As for her so-called "No call, no show," the right thing to do is to call because people are human and may sleep in, be stuck in traffic, or might have looked at the wrong schedule. I am guilty of all of these and always received a phone call. Although in this case, her schedule on hand did not show her working the day they claimed she didn't show, therefore she did not "No call, no show."
In conclusion, I feel like my sister was wrongfully fired and should have been treated better. I hope this company thinks about how they handled things with my sister and chooses to DO BETTER with any future employees. As a 16-year-old girl, she should have NOT been fired for the...
Read moreI have to give them a 3 star... not because of the store but from the salesperson at the customer service counter. I went in there with a few items that we were going to try to even exchange. I did not have my receipt. However, they were exchanged for items of the same thing, just different sizes. And the items we didn't have an even exchange for I had a receipt... so first she gave me an attitude about the no receipt, which I said it was a gift and we even exchanged it. The second item she accused me of washing it, but then recanted when she saw the tag and stickers were still all in place. Then, the final 2 items I returned and I pulled up my receipt online, and she very rudely huffed at me because the barcode was scratch off... she actually held it up and said "see this I can't get the barcode off of it because someone tried to remove the sticker" which I replied "well it's a gift and you generally try to remove the price from a gift". However, I did show her I had the sku numbers on my receipt and READ them to her. I just removed part of the sticker that had the price, and inadvertently, some of the barcodes were removed. Throughout this interaction, she was talking to me with an attitude. She asked me where the items were when I removed them from the counter after they were exchanged. And patted the counter and said, "Let's leave those items up here until we are done," like a was an idiot. Then I had more items I was going to purchase she again patted the counter to put them there and walked away to put the items I returned away. I could not believe how she treated me. I had my 2 kids with and tried to be as helpful to complete my multi step transaction and still did even with her attitude. Mind you it was about 5pm, not busy at all and there were other employees around. I will definitely not go to her if she is the one at the counter. Thank goodness for...
Read moreI just returned a couple of things to this store that I purchased on Amazon. I tried twice. The clerk at the customer service desk was the same both times and was rude to me both times. There is no signage as to where the returns are located except right over it. Nor is yhere any signage as to the hours; not on Kohls website or Amazon's. A person cannot find the Amazon return desk without walking the entire store. The clerk that accepted the return was nice. I did ask to speak with a manager. William appeared, dresses in a white tee shirt and kakhis. No name tag, or anything indicating he was even an employee, let alone a manager. I had to ask for his name. He interrupted me and loudly told me that the clerk was not rude. When I pointed out the lack of signage or the hours the Amazon return was open, he loudly told me that Kohls got no money for staffing the Amazon returns. He insinuated it was a drain on Kohls. This is not my problem. He also stated that the return desk was in the same spot for the last 3 years. I have not been in the store and am not familiar with the layout. I have not shopped at Kohls for years as the quality has fallen way off and the prices are outrageous. I am not psychic so how would I know where to go? This has been an awful experience and I will not shop at any Kohls ever again. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU GO TO ANOTHER RETURN SITE AND AVOID KOHLS TOGETHER. They couldn't give me merchandise. It is that bad. Anyone think the bad customer service is why Kohls is going to be closing soon? If the Amazon returns is a way to bring business into the store, the poor, rude customer service chases...
