Ngl this was the worst experience I’d ever had at this Buffalo Exchange. In the past nearly 8 years, I’ve always come here to sell items that were good quality, and whatever wouldn’t sell, I’d donate. I read the reviews, but I still decided to come in, which is my own fault.
I brought in brands ranging from lululemon, Dr. Martens, Uniqlo x U, Unworn Vans, ranging from leggings to baggy men’s pants, from t shirt to lined heavy men’s Jackets. All great quality items that I’d spent a pretty penny on. I’ve been in retail for over ten years, high end the last 3, and I am aware of what’s on trend at the moment, regardless of gender expression.
They only bought the Nike’s I brought in, because they’re on trend. Which is their right. However, it was Pretty disappointing, and I won’t be back. I used to work down the street and I saw the pricing change in real time, so I don’t shop there really at all. But this time I couldn’t even look at the clothing and was forced to overhear what was being said about what I brought in lol.
This is my own personal experience, but I will say, please heed the reviews that have been left. I essentially came all the way from South Shore to Wicker Park (I feel like a goofy typing that out) to receive $10 for Nike Blazers and to be told in detail to bring in clothing that is essentially I just described that I did, sans the Vans (which I do get tbh).
Anyways, I work retail so I get it. This isn’t all on the people who work there, for the most part they were really kind. It’s management, the culture they’ve set up, and what makes them the most profit. Not taking it to heart, but I won’t be back. Someone commented, “donate instead, you’ll feel better,” and they were right.
I hope everyone has an amazing day and the rest of the year. You are worthy of joy and your dreams...
Read moreSo, I recently moved into an apartment with a tiny closet and realized it was finally time to purge my wardrobe. I own a lot of high-quality stuff, and while I was planning to give it away to friends, one of them suggested I sell it at Buffalo Exchange for some extra cash. Sounded like a good idea, so I gave it a shot!
The process is super easy: you bring your clothes and your ID, check in, and wait your turn. It was busy when I went, but the staff was super nice and worked efficiently, so the wait wasn’t too bad.
Here’s the thing though—Buffalo Exchange is pretty specific about what they’ll take. I brought in a mix of business casual stuff and a TON of Alo and Lululemon athleisure, some of it brand new or barely worn. But to my surprise, they didn’t take much of it. (Pro tip: call ahead and ask what they’re looking for to save yourself some time!)
In the end, I sold a small amount of items and made about $80. I ended up giving the rest away to friends.
Overall, the staff was great, and the process was smooth even though I didn’t sell as much as I hoped. If you have trendy or in-demand items that match what they’re currently looking for, it’s definitely worth checking out. Just don’t forget to manage your expectations and maybe call ahead to see...
Read moreMy past few experiences here have not been great. As someone trying to sell clothes, I sold about $30 worth of clothes to them, and I receive store credit for it. They gave me a gift card and the receipt to use later on. So, I went back to go buy something with that gift card and receipt, and they had claimed it was empty… it feels like just another scam. They also seem to care very little about this problem, even given that I had my full receipt. Doesn’t seem like a “problem” to me ...
Also the fact that they give store credit for a much higher margin then cash back confirms that things are kind of weird. In general selling clothes takes a really long time at Buffalo.
They pay very very little for clothes, and I think everything in the store is overpriced. I’ve also heard stories from friends about really awful seller...
