Have shopped at and consigned with Quimby's for years but the new consignment policies make me really worried for the future. The limited initial stock of 5 copies with the much longer window for re-stocking has made the inventory feel increasingly stale since it limits popular items from re-stocking and new items from coming in. A lot of the old stock has been there for 6+ months and with the core community that frequents Quimby's a lack of fresh stock is a killer. There needs to be some sort of automatic rotation of old stock out and a caveat for stock that sold out within the 4 month window to be re-stocked. I knew my most recent dropoff had sold out but any requests made by consigners are quickly shut down so I inadvertently end up finding out about stock because friends will come in and ask for help finding it and get told it's sold out. Really love Quimby's and want nothing but success for them but I'm really looking for other places to consign in Chicago which is unfortunate because that scene is...
Read moreWhat's not to love about this store? My friend noticed the window display and thought we needed to stop in there after lunch, and was. she. right. Funny enough, we had also stopped into 2 other bookstores and I kept saying I didn't need to buy any more books because I already had a sizeable To Be Read pile. But when we walked in here, I knew I had lied 20 mins earlier. They have all kinds of 'zines on every subject possible. They showcase topics, books, and authors less mainstream than what you'll find at major chains. I had been looking for a book that I couldn't find anywhere else, and while meandering Quimby's, I saw it on display! It was too serendipitous NOT to get in addition to a few other great finds. I really had to force myself to checkout before I blew every last cent I had in this store. I will 100% be back any and every...
Read moreZine heaven!!! I envy the people of Chicago who can shop at Quimby's whenever they want. Oh, to live that life! I stop here whenever I'm in town and spend a small fortune stocking up on the latest zines and imported comics and whatever else catches my eye (see pic). I can (and have) spent hours browsing the stacks here. They've got everything: zines, radical leaflets, art books, magazines, comics, small press publications, esoteric books, photo zines, minicomics, tiny zines you can buy for a buck, Finnish comics, "uncategorizable" zines (lol), mini kuš comics (love those), and the old classic, books. Something for everyone! A great place to shop for gifts, I'm sure.
Quimby's is an absolute gem of a brick-and-mortar shop and I'm glad they exist
