I've noticed there is a lot of hype around YogaView because they are a hub for some of the "best teachers in Chicago", however most of the classes there I would call "okay" and their customer service and accuracy of marketing is terrible. One of my first experiences at YogaView was attending a workshop with Richard Freeman and Mary Taylor. The workshop was advertised as a backbend/breathing workshop but in reality it was sitting on the floor (not moving) for hours and listening to Richard Freeman pontificate about breathing and chanting. I expressed my frustration about this to YogaView via email and got no response (I wasn't even asking for my $70 back!). Another time when I returned to YogaView I was using ClassPass. When I arrived I gave the lady at the front desk my name, told her I was using Class Pass and she said I was all set and sent be back to the studio. The next day I got a phone call saying that I never paid for the class. To be fair, I may have messed up my Class Pass registration- but instead of telling me this at the door they said I was "all set" and then later demanded that I pay a full priced drop in for the class. After emailing back and forth with multiple people (and having to re-explain the situation due to different people emailing me) we agreed that I could sign-in to a class with the same teacher (not attend) and they would sign me in as payment- so I did this and was told the issue was resolved. Now, over 1 month later I am getting emails from the studio AGAIN saying that I didn't pay for that class. In my experience a business that wants to practice decent customer service would have let it go or at least properly documented the resolution. Given these frustrating experiences, the okay yoga classes, and the over used/wet yoga mats and props YogaView will not be a place a return to in a hurry. Although I must say, there space is...
Read moreI love yogaview. I have been practicing yoga for approx 5 years. I was reluctant to try it, figuring I would have trouble with all the pretzel shapes. But they don’t make you fit into pretzel shapes at yogaview. They teach you right where you are at! Yoga has become an important part of my life – it has helped me to build strength and flexibility – essential for a 61 year old guy like me. I have also become slightly less crazy and impulsive. Seems like there is something for everyone here from the most rigorous (pretzel shapes?) to the All Levels and Level 1 classes that I enjoy. If you are looking for a nice, clean studio with a friendly, casual vibe or are simply interested in trying a 4 week beginner class taught by the best instructors in the city – check...
Read moreYogaview is a magical place and the best yoga studio in Chicago. I’ve practiced on and off for the last 6 years there but this year in particular I got deeper into my Mysore / Ashtanga practice thanks to Alexia and Bridgett. Their attention to detail, knowledge of anatomy / body awareness, and dedication to the practice without letting ego interfere is truly a gift that I’ve felt such gratitude for the past 13 months.
Outside side of Ashtanga, I really love Adam’s classes: the intelligent sequencing and playtime for inversions/arm balances makes for a fun yet challenging time. Quinn, Claire, Katie, Chrissy and Whitney are all really great too!
If you’re looking to deepen your yoga practice and start the new year right, hands down Yogaview is the...
