This was fabulous! The name of the play is "MOTHER COURAGE and her children" by Bertolt Brecht, English version by Eric Bentley, directed by Max Truax. Very seriously, if you only get to see one live play this year, see this one. To begin with, the seats are comfortable. I do wish there was a little bit more elbow room. Spread the chairs out more if you can. This is my only complaint. My favorite actor is Rashaad A. Bond, he plays one of Mother Courage's sons Swiss Cheese. He was excellent in this role. In a few scenes, he was standing right in front of me. His eyes are dark and piercing. He wasn't looking at anyone. That's what made his acting so great, so believable. Great job, Mr. Bond. Next, his brother Bill Gordon, Eilef. I don't want to ruin the play for anyone, so I'm not going to say what any actor does exactly. Eilef does something that actually made me stop breathing while he did it. In my mind, I kept saying no, he's not going to do that, then he begins doing it. On the poorly lit stage. When he is done, you can hear the people around you breathe again. Wow. It reminds me of something Gene Kelly would do. Bravo, Mr. Gordon. Another actor I really enjoyed was Kevin Webb. Mr. Webb played 2 characters, the Officer and the Cook. Great job, Mr. Webb. He was so good in these 2 very different roles that I had to keep reminding myself that he was the same person. It wasn't that he simply changed his clothes he really changed much more about himself. I don't want to give anything away. I'll just say these 3 gentlemen did excellent jobs of acting this evening. This would be a nice thing to do for Valentines Day. There's a restaurant attached. They have a bar if you'd like to have drinks. The price is just right as well. We had no problem parking either. Well, it's Buck Town. You may have some problems parking, we...
Read moreI’m a huge live theater/play fan and this is the most unique theater in Chicago! First of all, it’s a bit hidden so it has a mysterious flair right at the start, and the space itself is very small so you feel intimately connected to the stage and to the actors no matter where you sit. The actors in the troupe are AMAZING (they are non equity and not paid, only volunteer) and the plays are usually eclectic and alternative, giving you a fresh, authentic experience every time. Please go and support this creative and hard...

We went to see The Mannequin Ball which we expected to be avante garde and edgy. I like theater that challenges your thought and beliefs. Sadly, this one missed the mark. The cast were very passionate about their performance, but the story fell flat.
I do plan to go back for...
