I have heard from some people that this is the best Thai place in Chicagoland. This is a pretty bold claim and I just had to try it out myself. There are no noticeable signage out front of the joint. You could easily walk right pass it since it looks just like a normal house. So if you know it you know it. The ambient isn't much, one long single column of tables, right next to the open kitchen. The restaurant could stink up pretty good if it gets busy, so date night is out of the question. Now about the food, the best traditional Pad Thai outside of Thailand hands down! Holy Cow the flavors. It actually looks reddish brown from the tamarind and that is how it should look like! The flavor was so strong and intense just like they are in Thailand , I love it! The beef was tender and juicy, not dry and hard like some places, and the roasted peanuts!!! The Curries are the same way, deep and balance flavors, intense., perfect! The other dishes are good, but not as impressive as the Pad Thai and the Curries. Do try the Khao Soi! From all of these exceptional dishes, you would expect a couple of experienced Thai or at least Asian chefs in the kitchen, but to my surprise, it was 3 young Mexican chefs dishing out these mouth watering plates! So yes, base on the dishes that we have tried, this is definitely the best Thai place in Chicago land, and we have had a lot. The only issue that I have is, there is no liquor license here, not even BYOB, which it could explain why they do a lot of carry outs. Strongly recommended!

Solid Thai food in a vibey and chic spot. Saw a few reviews about this being some of the best Thai food in the city… I would not go that far, but it was definitively good. Crab Rangoon was good and drunken noodles / pad kee mao with tofu was up to standard. One of their house specials, panang noodles, sounded very interesting as a potential cross between a panang curry and a noodle dish. Wide noodles were good but not nearly enough, and too much sauce. The dish, ostensibly a curry, needed rice, and the sauce itself, while well flavored for a Panang curry, was too peppery and flecked with ground black pepper, which overpowered the balance. The carrots in here were also too thick and not soft, which didn’t fit with the textural experience. The better Thai curries that incorporate root vegetables like potatoes or sweet potatoes really keep them soft, and texture comes from nuts or more thinly sliced peppers. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here but to have a house special not stand up to some of the reliable Thai standards in the city is a miss.

Overall Thoughts: This is a relatively new Thai spot in Lincoln Park with cute, green, aesthetic vibes. The space is fairly small, with 8 tables total that seat 2-4 people. I came on a Thursday night for dinner and it wasn’t too crowded. The menu offers standard Thai fare with all the staples from noodles to curries to stir-fried entrees. I ordered the Khao Soi Chicken, which tasted good, but wasn’t that traditional in its ingredient profile. The broth and egg noodles were both deliciously creamy with a strong curry taste, and had a mild spicy flare. However, I wish they used the traditional chicken drumstick instead of chicken breast, which was a bit dry and not as flavorful. The service was friendly, attentive, and quick. The prices are pretty standard for the area— not unreasonably high, but not low either. Overall, it’s a spot that I’d be glad to come back to whether by myself or with a small number of people. — Price (relative to peers): 4.3/5 Food: 4.3/5 Ambience: 4.9/5 Service: 4.9/5 Overall Value: 4.4/5

Best Thai Food Ever!! This was my first time trying food from here and let me tell you it's the best of the best. I have no reason to fake it, this is the place to go. The food is fresh, hot and will leave you satisfied. Also the Iced Thai Tea is the best I've ever had. You can tell they take their restaurant seriously. You can always tell how food will be by how clean a restaurant is and this place is cleannnn! I'm happy when restaurants take cleanliness and food safety seriously! It should be a number one priority everywhere, but some places just don't get it unfortunately. I'll stop ranting now. If you're looking for authentic good tasting Thai food that will make you want more come to Oliang!

Update I went here again a bit ago and got a weird vibe from the owner/chef. He seems very controlling, strict and unpleasant. I went and ordered my food to go, once I got my food I changed my mind because traffic was bad. So I told the cashier at the front desk that I'm just going to sit down at a table and eat my food instead of leaving. This was okay until the owner noticed and he literally came over and took my food and put it into a plate. I was fine with it being in a to-go container. I guess this is not allowed in his restaurant, he basically told me in a way don't come back here again and do this. The way he came off was a bit rude. The owner's wife is very friendly though when...

This was some of the worst Thai food I’ve ever had. They must be paying a bot to write good reviews because the food is not authentic Thai, nor is it good.

Fried Rice was overcooked and gummy sticking together like mush. And white rice was similar in consistency.

Pad see ew had barley and broccoli or noodles and had carrots in it. Carrots?

Burned and I mean BLACK pad see ew. Crab Rangoon was stuffed with grated carrots to give a fake appearance of crab meat -deceiving.

Menu is also deceiving, the prices are over the top and then they charge you extra on top for protein on top of the over inflated price. Red curry, they charged me $3 extra for vegetables - and it barely had vegetables. And they were overcooked!!

Beef wasn’t cut properly and all connected together. Chef is amateur at best and not authentic Thai.

I will never again eat here and their food and pricing practices are totally wrong.

Bad, overcooked food, and totally overpriced garbage.

People were nice inside, but you feel jipped and taken advantage of, when you think of the quality of the food.

Go somewhere else. Do NOT trust the fake 5...
