A a Veteran transitioning to civilian life choosing a field and school was not easy. Upon researching schools for Electrical and reading reviews I chose Intercoast College Riverside due to their accreditation from the State and VA and great reviews. For those who are fellow Veterans I recommend this school due to the following. Intercoast was very informative and is a certified school by the state and VA. When I first started in January Pre-COViD and attending school everything was at a nice pace, we did lecture one day and practiced the next day what we went over for our lecture. The school supplied us with everything we needed to my surprise not cheap tools or limits when using product such as wires or devices to make connections. The simulations they have are small scale meant to build confidence when you do enter the field. When we transferred over to online the school did not disappoint with the lessons and virtual labs. I personally love being hands on but they made do with what was given to them. The instructors I had were seasoned Masters of their field not inexperienced instructors you might see somewhere else. My current instructor for the main Electrical course Ricardo Barrow and Antonio Tristan who I want to say have 60+years of experience and the introduction to the field Jason Ashbaugh who I might say has 20+years in the field introduced us to the basics of Electricity and construction. They have really gone above and beyond in trying to prepare us and giving us the proper critiques and corrections in order to learn not in demeaning ways but as mentors. Mayra De Leon who is my student success partner has been instrumental in my success dealing with transferring to hybrid online and getting everything I needed to stay successful with reminders and checking in to make sure we are not having issues with the course. Andrew De Luna who is the Career service coordinator has been a great help, he has gone above and beyond making sure that I received certifications that I have completed, for this reading this you will get your OSHA 10/CPR, and Electrical Trainee Card during this course on top of other certifications that will make you a competitive applicant. Over all I look forward to finishing, but will leave with a bittersweet taste due to leaving such great people...
Read moreI have been a student at Intercoast colleges since 2012. When I started, I was 8 months pregnant and thought I would try the trial period for drug and alcohol counseling certification to see if it was something I wanted to do after I had my baby. After the week was over, I found myself signing up. I had a great instructor out of the Carson campus, by the name of Ms. Lee, and it was her experiences and tough love that made it enjoyable to learn. It didn't take long for me to realize that this field was the field I wanted to be in. Throughout the years, I have found myself facing hardships, both motherhood and financial hardships to be exact. I was able to return back to school after having my second daughter and ended up having the same teacher. I was so thankful to have someone familiar to teach me. Upon the many challenges I faced as a single mother, I decided to return to Intercoast in 2019. Although I was far away from the campus, I was able to continue my classes online. The staff has been amazing and wonderful. They are very knowledgeable and patient, they have worked with me all these years, and never gave up on me. One of the staff members at Intercoast that I would like to personally think is Leslie Perez.. she has been wonderful, an extremely patient. She's even took time out of her busy days to talk to me, and motivate me to not give up and continue pushing forward. She has worked with me every step of the way, despite the fear I had of going from campus to online. she was very clear in all the instructions that I was to follow to get me to where I am today. And because of her patients and her professionalism, I am finally finished. Thank you Leslie, you are my girl, and I appreciate all that you have done for me. If I have to recommend any colleges, I would Intercoast a 10 out of 10. I've had the greatest experience, and thanks to them I am now holding an associate's degree in substance use disorder counseling and certification in addiction disorder...
Read moreGosh, I came into Intercoast not knowing a thing about electrical and was afraid to join thought I wouldn't be able to handle it. I have now gained so much knowledge and experience coming to intercoast. Terry and Mr. Massia answered any and all questions I had in class or lab, which I am very grateful for. Also, Want to recognize Howard for his amazing share in making Intercoast such a smooth road for the students. His dedication and hard work for us all is above and beyond. He goes to the extremes for his students. So many job opportunities for us, thanks to Howard for having that passion for us students to grow and get somewhere in life. I cannot think of anything he has Not done for alllll of us students. Thanks to Cindy as well for her great work and structure at Intercoast. Because of her is how I've gotten so far in school and didn't get terminated and graduating. She was so on the ball with making sure her students were passing and attendance was maintained. Felt like she was my mom that I needed lol. Thank you to all the staff here at Intercoast you have all been a part of making the students have a great journey to their dreams. I come to school as if you all are my family. One last thing, thank you all for hearing out all our concerns and suggestions to having Intercoast a great school for us.
