I have used Herman's for about 20 years, after I moved to West Des Moines. I met the co-owners, Frank and his brother Don, and became a semi-regular customer. Over time, I have had them size rings, sold them gold and silver items when the metal prices were high, and I did not need the items as much as I wanted the money, and I bought from them. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable about all things gemstone related and otherwise.
It's a no pressure, easy-going place that is comfortable, and has a wide selection of things, including vintage jewerly, some of which I have purchased and 2-3 pieces which they got that were mine. I highly recommend this store and the owners for their knowledge, personalities and how they do business. If something is not right, they will do everything they can to...
Read moreThe gentleman behind the counter showed zero interest in valuing my items because I was not having them appraised, which costs money. Approximately $65 Per item I believe is what he told me. What they don’t make clear on the website is that they only have interest in diamonds and gold, and some precious metals. Anything else and he literally would throw his hands up in the air. It felt very biased based on the man’s personal opinion. I do not recommend this place to anyone even if they have diamonds, gold, silver etc.… His tone was extremely annoyed, probably because I was interrupting his latest war craft conversation with the other fella sitting in the back corner listening to our banter. Ultimately they offered no help except suggesting I go to “stuff” just up the road. Which I will do now. To...
Read moreZERO stars! They purchased a ring from my brother-in-law, who was VISIBLY in midst of mental illness breakdown (hospitalized within hours of visit to Hermans). They LIED to my sister, claiming they hadn't purchased the ring, then LIED again, claiming a 2 week wait period requirement which does not exist - and to add insult to injury, added $200 to the price for my sister to purchase HER ring back. The ring that any ethical business would not have purchased to begin with. I wonder why they tried to cover up the fact that they HAD purchased the ring? Concerned it was a questionable transaction perhaps?! What a disgrace, poor business practices and dishonesty from...
