Mac Shack — Restaurant in West Des Moines

1 star. Ordered 2 entrees and an appetizer for carryout. 20 minutes estimate given.

Arrive to wait for my pickup order. Waited for an additional 20 minutes, patiently. Found out the manager (blonde haired woman) was drinking at the bar and began working after they had a complaint from a doordash worker. All while I'm standing waiting for my food.

Finally got the food, the guy at the register who took my card tried to touch me on the shoulder while I was on my way out (uhh hello, its a pandemic?) On that note, practically on one was wearing a mask or socially distancing.

Food would've been good if it wasn't cold! The hottest item was the extra pretzel sticks they gave for the wait.

Here's the kicker. I paid upfront at the bar, got a receipt and waited.

Later after we ate they actually called my friend who placed the order and left a message asking for his credit card information! That they'd write it down if he was okay with them! That voice-mail is a keeper!

Apparently they thought I didn't pay for the order since they had no receipt with my friends name on the card! 😆 what the hell?

I asked for a refund and the manager verbally obliged but I've yet to see it.

Worst....

Wasn't too happy with my visit today.

Stopped in with my daughter to quickly order her a kids meal and nachos. First thing I noticed was for a $9.00 plate of nachos. The amount of nachos is very displeasing but not as displeasing as the amount of meat that's on the nachos. There was just a sprinkle of meat on them.

When I told the waitress, she said she would bring more beef out. So the cook shows up with a plate of beef that almost quadrupled the amount that was on the plate. I told him that it looks like they only used 1oz of meat and he claimed it was more. Yeah, I've been in the restaurant industry a long time and could tell that wasn't exactly the truth.

So I added the beef to the plate but this time the beef tasted like dish water. First impression was this is an establishment where you shouldn't complain about the food. Or you might get something extra added to your request.

Took two bites, left the food there, paid my bill, and left. I would say that this place seems to cut their food amount down so they can make the extra couple bucks. Kind of seems like they may not last that long if that's the case.

Staff was very pleasant to deal...

Tonight was the first time I tried Mac Shack and I wish I hadn’t. Everything sounded so good on the menu but when you get the food it’s just a let down. I ordered the grilled cheese cheeseburger and got a side of Mac and cheese. The cheeseburger wasn’t in any shape or form a type of grilled cheese. It’s an unseasoned burger patty and 2 strips of bacon with a slice of cheese and large amounts of cream cheese in between two sour dough slices of bread. First couple bites were nothing but cream cheese. I cut it into smaller pieces and tried again but still all I could taste was cream cheese. I even wiped some of the cream cheese off thinking they accidentally just put too much on mine? I started to gag and couldn’t finish the burger even though I myself love cream cheese. The Mac and cheese was okay but nothing I would name a whole restaurant over. I wish the food was as good as it’s worded...
