I have to say i never really felt discrimination too much in life but my god did i see it about 3 times in ine store,i was looking for some cologne and had been looking into the glass thing in one area for some time,so a lady asked a man if he needed help and i was there before him and he said no and then the woman started to walk away and i raised my hand to her but she kept walking(no i didn't say anything because i was a bit shocked that she straight ignored me) i did say rather loud "i must be invisible"So i didn't find what i was looking for because it was only womens perfume there,so i asked a woman where i could find mens cologne and she told me to go to Macy's downstairs,so naturally i thought it would be directly below me because i was in the second floor of Macy's andi said "do you mean right under us?"and sge told me she didn't know so i leave out and find a whole other Macy's in the middle of the mall,so i go to the colgne section and im looking and see what i wanted but wasn't sure, there was another man standing next to me and the guy behind the counter asks if he needed help and he said no and they immediately start to walk awayand i say out loud "i could use some help"the guy keeps walking and so i say a bit louder"jeez i guess im invisible" at that moment there were 2 other people standing within ear shot who the proceeded to walk behind some divider thing,at this piont im getting a little frustrated and then to put the icing on the cake there was a woman worker who was putting together some box and almost on my shoulder was a younger white woman who the worker asked"do you need some help?"the other woman said "no"so i raised my hand again and said "i could use some assitance" and i swear to god too you that she didn't even look up from the box thing she was doing and said nothing. The younger white woman who had just been offered help just ki d of looked at me like "wow that's messed up"So i then just left the store i was t going to spwnd any money in a place where they were seemingly ignoring me.Now im half Italian and half puerto rican and today i was dressed in a way you would call i guess streetish or maybe thuggish and im not quite sure exactly what it was abput me but it was very clear that they were more than willing to help all but me and i mean it was pretty blatant to the piont where i actually said aloud "i guess i must be invisible" and it was loud enough to be heard and yet they still wouldn't address or help me.I know unfortunately alot of people go through much worse than this but for the same reasons i just didn't think a buisness(and i have my own) would do something like this and lose customers because i won't be buying anything in Macy's again and any of my friends and family or military brothers that will do the same i willmlst definitely encourage them to do the same. That this happened during the holidays goes to show that most places dont care very much about...
Read moreI used to enjoy going to Macy’s Westfarms Mall. Not anymore. In fact, every Macy’s I’ve been to in Connecticut is not worth the fuel or mileage.
Specific to Macy’s Westfarms: The women’s dressing rooms are disgusting! They are very poorly lit, you can’t see yourself in the mirror. Some of the dressing rooms still have carpet that has a horrible, disgusting odor of mildew and foot perspiration! The carpet is stained and spiked and some parts are ripped. The dressing rooms with laminate flooring are also poorly lit but do not smell as bad. Most of the rooms have merchandise in them and there are never enough stalls. (Stalls is a perfect word based on smell alone.) Paint is chipped and peeling and gum stuck to some of the walls. There aren’t enough sales associates to take care of the customers let alone the dressing rooms. Just gross and disgusting. Don’t get me started on the appalling lack of organization in the women’s shoe department. Absurd.
Merchandise (specifically for women): If I compare the merchandise at the Macy’s Philadelphia versus the merchandise at Macy’s in Connecticut, there are differences. I understand that different regions of the country have different shopping habits, likes and dislikes. Indeed, there are different economic factors that steer the different styles in stores. But let’s be honest: if I’m looking for a pair of women’s black Oxford shoes, I should be able to get them in Connecticut as well as Philadelphia. Moreover, carry more sizes. Not everyone is small. Some of us are medium or large for comfort. Expand your line of merchandise. Not everyone finds scoop necks and cold shoulders appealing. Some of us prefer more sophisticated clothing that is well tailored. And there are more clothing manufacturers than the Macy’s specific brands and definitely more designers than the MK. Repeat styles across the floor are monotonous.
It is also annoying to get in my car, drive X amount of miles, walk into the store to purchase a specific item that is advertised on sale, only to be told by a sales associate that I can order it online. Let’s be serious: if I wanted to order it online, pay for shipping and wait X amount of days, I would have done that from the comfort of my living room and not bothered to go out only to be told what I already knew. Some of us prefer instant gratification, which is why we trek to the nearest Macy’s. Please: don't insult our...
